Should Caitlin Clark have been included on the Olympic team?

If you said this about a young black player, it would be racist.

A white woman being good at basketball is not exactly novel. There are four white women on the team. Four of the top 10 players in WNBA history - Breanna Stewart, Sue Bird, Diana T, and Lauren Jackson - are white. CC would have fit in fine. The reason she was left off the team was not racism but because she is shooting 37% from the field, 33% from 3, leads the league in turnovers, and is a below average defender. Those are the facts.

Yet better than Tuarasi across the board. But keep trying. Fact is they want her to pay her dues it's not about objectivity and talent.

Clark and Tuarasi have very similar stat lines this season.

But one is better.

Is it the one with 5 gold medals, 3 WNBA titles, 3 NCAA championships? Or the one that never won an NCAA championship?

I thought the Olympics are about the best of the best and what have you done for me lately? Are you saying we're just awarding people based on nostalgia now? Pick a lane.

Dont have to. DT still has the better stat line.

Wrong again.

Shooting splits are near identical between Taurasi and Caitlin Clark at similar volume. CC is 37/33/89 and Taurasi is 37/34/85. Points are similiar. 16.6 vs. 16.3. Caitlin Clark has more assists, but leads the league in turnovers by a wide margin. Neither is a plus defender. Honestly, neither should be on the team, but hard to see any metric by which Caitlin Clark is clearly better.

Nearly identical is not identical. You tried it though. Just admit you don't like her and will keep inventing reasons to keep her off the team.

To the extent they are not identical they favor Tarausi. The 5.4 turnovers a game for Caitlin Clark to 1.5 for Taurasi is the main difference. CC is literally last in the entire WBA in turnover rate. 117 out of 117.

Sure, sure. But it says above "DT has the better stat line." And that is demonstrably false.

What is crazy is that the thing Caitlin Clark is supposed to be good at is shooting from distance. And she is 35th in 3 point percentage.

Have you seen how the other women players on other teams talk and act around her? If she were on the team, would likely get accidentally "pushed around" in the locker room a few too many times. Best for her to rest and improve her game. She will easily be the best player in the WNBA ever in a few years (which is not saying much, the WNBA is weak).

She will not win a single WNBA mvp let alone be the best WNBA player ever. Too thin, weak handle, poor defender. She seems like a nice person, but she is way over hyped. Both Paige Buekers and JuJu will have better WNBA careers.

Have no idea what is racist about team chemistry. If I said rookies on other teams (Aces, Sky, Sparks, Mystics) have better chemistry with their team than she does with Fever, is that also racist?

They kept trying to force the comparison to Steph Curry, but right now she's like a very watered down version of James Harden without the strength and handle.

The other women can't be expected to act like professionals and not bullies, so, it's for the best. You're hilarious.

DP. I like her. She's just not there yet. It's nothing personal.

Of course it is. We were told she was better. Then the stats came out and they were "near identical". If in doubt why wouldn't you take the person in the upswing of their career, not the downswing? There are obvious subjective factors at play here.

10/10 times I would take the veteran who has been there before and won multiple times over someone who has never been to an international competition and hasn’t even played a full season of professional basketball.

That’s basically the reason Alex Morgan is likely going to the Olympics over players who have a much better claim to go than CC.

Yes, and the women's soccer team did so well last time with their "experienced" team. So much success.

That may be true, but they never brought the eyeballs or ticket sales that Clark has.

Finally, a women’s sport is getting major momentum on the ticket sales and all these players are tearing it down. As usual the biggest obstacles in the workplace are other women.

Clark hasn’t done anything to deserve the attacks on her. She can’t help what the audience thinks. She has not said anything about being better than other players or deserving a spot on the Olympics team.

I can see this both ways. CC owns the sport in a couple of years. She is the MJ, the Tom Brady. She will have time. What she needs on her team now is a couple of goon players who can protect her and fight back so she can shine. Every hockey superstar has an enforcer to protect him -- that is what she needs.

I think this is just wrong. No reason to believe what you said. The best in the college game have always become the best in the WNBA -- not true for the men -- always true for the ladies.

Not sure women’s basketball has ever gotten a primetime slot.

Correct. But they missed their chance to change that. The US Women will win again and nobody will remember anything about them. Meanwhile, Indiana will keep selling out huge arenas. She’s single-handedly making women’s basketball relevant. The old guard hates to admit it, but she’s coming for them and they are scared to death.

She’s too thin with weak hands is all just racist code for she’s too white. So in the meantime they’re just going to do their best to knock her down (and some might argue -actually injure her), while she’s the only one anyone is actually putting their money on.

CC could definitely become a great player in the WNBA but it will take time. She’s not going to make first team all WNBA for at least 3 and more likely 5 years, and that’s ok. People thinking a rookie is the best player in the pro game just don’t know what they are talking about
