I’ve got no knowledge of this sport but all the news outlets indicate the tryouts were held during the WNBA final four games and she was playing in them. You state it like she intentionally snubbed the tryout process

The fact that you said just said "WNBA Final Four" really demonstrates that you don't have any knowledge, yes. It's okay not to have an opinion when you don't know anything.

And it’s fine to not respond when you lack reading comprehension skills. I provided no opinion on the situation only pp’s writing tone.

I think PP is pointing out that there is no “WNBA final four”.

Splitting hairs.

Women's basketball has the worst marketing and promotion apparatus of any sport in the country. There are high school teams better at promoting themselves.

This. As noted by pps - this was the worst business decision that could’ve been made. They’ve lost a great opportunity to grow their fan base.

You do realize that USA Basketball committee and WNBA are separate entities right? All the committee cares about is winning medals. Caitlin is a talented player but I don’t think she is ready for the physicality of international play this olympics, she may be ready for World Championships in 2 years but will definitely be ready for the 2028 Olympics.

41 year old diana taurasi is on the team.

I think CC is better off without being on that team.

This reminds me of when Lolo Jones choked AGAIN and the GMA hosts asked Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells if they should have "invited" her onto the podium for the medal ceremony anyway. Like, WTF? It's fine to have favorites, even if they're only your favorite because the media is telling you they're the best and the stats don't back it up. But to say that in the Olympics, the *fan favorite* should get a free ride onto the team/podium because that's what people who watch GMA/post on DCUM want to see, is truly baffling. Do you think the Olympics is a popularity contest?

I wouldn't be surprised if CC is on a future team. But many, many promising rookies (even very famous ones!) don't go to the Olympics right out of the gates. Steph Curry, who is extremely popular and the player that casuals most like to compare CC's game to, will be attending his FIRST Olympics this summer - after 14 years in the pros.

Again, if that is true, explain Taursi taking up a roster spot.

I’m betting you Curry had other opportunities and turned them down for whatever reason.

The NBA begs their stars. After the dream team most realize that winning is expecting and losing is embarrassing, so not going is the usual choice.

She's 100% not physically ready for the Olympics at this point; she needs time to add muscle. The youngest player on the team is four years old than Clark, because it takes time to develop enough to play at that level. Taurasi is a veteran leader, you don't cut her for an young, undersized rookie.

This is lost on the DCUM "WNBA Final Four" crowd, because all they know is that the TV told them she's the best.

People argue that they picked the best and not the most popular. However, “the best” is subjective. There are lots of decent arguments for her earning a spot.

No one is going to watch or care without her. They’ll win gold. No one will remember any of it.

It’s good for CC that she got left off the team. She needs the break. But I’m sure she’s not happy about it. No elite athlete would be.

Is she the best player at her position in the WNBA? If not, then no, she doesn't belong.

The Clark fanbase of delusion marches on. You know it will be something if she fails not because of her skill but because of her fan base’s ridiculously high expectation of her. I’ve never seen a more entitled group of whiners who want prizes handed to her that she hasn’t earned, White House invitation, NCAA championship, Olympic roster spot etc.

in that case, can you explain Taursi? Is she even close to the best at her position?

Nobody watches women’s BB at the Olympics. There are more exciting sports to enjoy, like ribbon dancing

They would’ve watched if CC was playing. I’m sure NBC is stoked.
