Must be why he blamed it on his wife.

Just like Menendez. I guess blaming the wife is the one thing the right and left can agree on.

Why is it so hard to believe the wife turned the flag upside down?

Why is it so hard to believe that he knows this is a terrible look and he's throwing her under the bus?

This. I was married to a guy in a public role/job that came with a ton of rules and I was well aware that I needed to be mindful of them too. Optics matter. Professionalism matters.

So, not allowed to disagree publicly with your husband?

My husband was too professional to even express a political opinion. As it should be. He didn’t discuss politics with anyone. His own children didn’t even know where he stood politically until he retired. I shared my opinions with my friends but would never publicly take a position, no. I didn’t volunteer on campaigns until he retired. I can’t emphasize this enough but that is how it should be for roles that are non partisan and it’s sad that this seems to shock people.

That is your choice and it is not shocking at all. Mrs. Alito was allowed to make a different choice.

Do you have the same criticism for Judge Merchant donating to Biden?

You’re equating a campaign donation with an insurrectionist flag? How are you okay with what you wrote?

There is no insurrection flag. It was the US flag flown upside down.

Which is a symbol of insurrectionists.

It’s also been used by Vietnam war protesters, progressives fighting the overturn of Roe vs Wade, BLM supporters. It’s a symbol of distress or rebellion against the government. Either way, it’s not some separate flag and words matter.

Who was flying the flag in this manner in January 2021? “Progressives fighting the overturn of Roe vs Wade”?

Here’s just one example

https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/americans-display-us-flag-upside-down-protest-roe-v-wade-decision/530-5e945b98-1e03-4b9c-b269-914854e3a13a

Point is, it’s a symbol of distress, rebellion or anger at the government and it’s been used for decades. Yet it’s always been a violation of flag code.

Is that example from January 2021? No. Your whataboutism is noted.

I never claimed it was? I talked about Vietnam protesters too.

The PP had referred to an insurrectionist flag. There is no such thing. This was a US flag turned upside down which is a symbol of distress. Again. Words matter.

His wife probably hung it that way accidentally. Why is this even a story in 2024??

Really?

Alito is 74. He married his wife in 1985 when she was a law librarian. Will estimate that she is 62 at a minimum. I'm 62. I'm pretty progressive. I also learned about how to hang a flag when I was a Girl Scout at 10 as well as how not to. Even if Mrs. Alito wasn't a Scout, I can't imagine that she made it through the '60s and '70s w/o hearing about flag etiquette. Seriously.

DH was a political appointee at one point early in his career. You better believe that if I ran a flag up the pole and realized it was upside down, I would have brought that flag down stat lest there be any repercussions for a perceived unpatriotic act at the home of a political appointee.

And who runs the flag up the pole without then looking at it once its at the top - no one.

The fact that this flag was up for days tells you everything that we need to know about how Alito views the ethics of his job.

And Justice A-hole served in the military for years.

Per Alito on the upside down US flag flown at his house just before Biden’s inauguration: “It was briefly placed by Mrs. Alito in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”

According to interviews with neighbors, a neighbor had an anti-Trump yard sign with an expletive on it.

Mrs. Alito is so fragile that an expletive on a nearby yard sign caused her to fly the US flag upside down?

Seems like the neighbor think it was the wife and not Alito too.

Where are you posting from that you have this little knowledge about the volume of rules, ethics, and professional behavior that federal employees have to follow?

From inside Chief Justice Roberts' chambers....

I would totally believe that low intellect turd barge is on here. Hey Sammy. We all hate you and think if you love fascism so much, go live in Russia or China. You can be perfectly at home in the authoritarian landscape and then America can keep being democracy.

The fact that you think we have choices is more evidence that you don’t understand anything we’re saying about rules, ethics, and professional conduct. Yes, it was her choice to create bad optics that make her husband look unethical and unprofessional. I mean, everyone can choose to violate rules, norms, and professional conduct, okay. That’s not a pass. But it was probably him and let’s face it, this is not the only evidence of his lack of integrity and ethics.

NYT and CNN raising this issue now is all about getting Alito to recuse for the upcoming J6 cases. I’m pointing out the stunning hypocrisy of people being OK with judge Merchan not recusing and the stunning hypocrisy of those who think the little woman should just keep her opinions to herself.

We can explain it to you but we can’t make you understand it. Spouses of people in non-partisan leadership positions, regardless of their sex or gender, should not be this dumb about professional conduct and yes, they CAN do things that get the person fired.

But let’s stop pretending she did it alone. How about we stop believing it’s always the woman’s fault? He’s not just unethical, he’s a coward.

You don’t have to keep “explaining” things to people who understand you perfectly well. They just disagree with you.

Nope. You’re trying to make it a “little woman” issue and it’s not. You’re being dishonest.

I believe Alito. That does not make me dishonest.

But it does make you delusional.

I’m pretty sure that the inability to deal with people who disagree with you is a symptom of a personality disorder.

You are not entitled to your own facts.

What in the world are you talking about? I am not making up any facts. Justice Alito says his wife put it up. You say he’s lying. My opinion is that I believe him. To suggest that his wife couldn’t have done that is to deny her agency. That’s a bit sexist, don’t you think?

You think he simply never saw the front of his house in the time it was up?! Who cares who put it up - this gdforsaken flag was up at a Sup Ct justice's house. That's INSANE.

Mrs. Alito is not a Supreme Court justice. Maybe he respects her and doesn’t try to control her the way you would like?

Not sure how that is relevant to Justice Alito's behavior. But what his behavour shows is how much of a partisan hack he is. Not worthy of any respect. Just a smart political sleezeball.
