Morning People - 5am work out — when is bedtime?

My DH goes to a class at 6 a.m. He wakes up at 5 for coffee. He is snoring by 8:30 p.m.

OP, if you are just too spent to work out regularly at this point in your life then... just don't. My kids were terrible sleepers when they were very young, I found it nearly impossible to work out on the terrible broken sleep I was getting, so I stopped trying. Now that we are in the late-elementary to high school years, I have enough energy and mental space to work out again. The first month or so when I got back into it was hard, but it got easier pretty quickly. During those non-workout years, I prioritized sleep, diet, and making sure that I got a bit of movement every day (mostly in the form of walking to work or running errands on foot). It was fine.

My kid needs a load of homework support. Between sports pickup, homework, and other life demands every night — not to mention any work projects or west coast clients that need my evening attention — I never get enough sleep for a 5am workout at this stage of life. I rarely get enough as it is.

Good luck, OP! It is hard.

I’m a sink-or-swim mom. I give minimal homework support because one day they will be on their own and I won’t be there for homework support. It is on them to get their homework done. I just say, “is your homework done?” if I see them playing video games. (One of my kids has ADD as well.)

OP, I’ve BTDT, except I was home by 7-7:30 at the latest. If you can’t afford help, then the SO needs to do more of the evening piece since you’ve got the am part. You haven't given enough detail (I didn’t read all 10 pgs) of when you and partner are home, but I think one is primary for the morning routine and the other for the evening. Otherwise cutting into sleep is just not sustainable. You can also look into “exercise snacks” as a way to fit fitness in during the day. You just can’t come here and ask how to “do it all” with literally no time. Only you know how much sleep your body requires, but I think of up at 5am, you should be asleep by 10:30.

I don't understand how people keep these toddler bedtimes. It's insane. And sad. Especially in the summer.

I don’t understand people who sleep past dawn. To each their own.
