Almost all college towns are great depending on what's important to you, so this is kind of a dumb question. There have been student murders on/near college campuses in NYC but that has not affected applications to schools there.

Of course you can, but the degree to which the list is useful will depend on your individual priorities. This is only one of many lists that take a more data-driven approach. It’s interesting to contrast them with the more subjective ones.

Northfield, MN, but for college it is only a good college town if you are at Carleton. St Olaf is too removed. For retirement, it is great and you can access both colleges easily.
