Safety in schools

But wait, they got CEOs! Gasp.
Community Engagement Officer.
The 1, yes ONE, that floats among schools in a cluster or even more than one cluster. How do we contact a CEO? Still don't know.

Student code of conduct is followed for terrible hate based incidents. Why can't same student of conduct be enforced for misbehavior and felony crimes in bathrooms?

Add gas leaks to list of safety concerns in MCps schools. Oh my. Why isn't anyone crying EQUITY over gas leaks IN THE SCHOOLS??? Look at which schools!

I'm a Republican but don't support putting more guns in schools like SROs because I think it would be better if teachers were also armed.

Petition to have more CEO - community engagement officer. One per school at least.

Nobody wants that with the exception of right-wing agitators that post here.

I’m a life long Democrat and professed liberal that works in an occupation that is absolutely hated by the right-wing. I want the SROs back.

Another Democrat here: and same.

It also should be noted that half the time I pick up DC for a doctor's appt or whatever there's a cop car in the parking lot of their high school

I think that cop car is the CEO car. They park it notably as a disincentive to criminal activity. Of course I guess that also signals when the CEO is off campus dealing with another school in the cluster.

SRO in disguise?

If they focused on making schools educate instead of focusing solely on equity, there wouldn't be a need for any of this nonsense.

Make your voices heard if you want SROs back

And tell Jawando and the rest of the County Council to reinstate them!

MCPS kicked out all SROs following the Defund the Police! / BLM orders.

Police are NOT stakeholders in MCPS anymore. You should correct your post, OP.

LOL It had more to do with the actual studies which show they make schools less safe but oh well

Those studies were done before SROs were removed, which was before the violence uptick that happened after STOs were removed!

Then organize a protest calling for SROs - that is the only thing that will pressure the County Council.

I think we need to move away from the term SRO. The CEO program is fine with some tweaks—
— assign at least one dedicated to each HS plus at least one additional to float in the cluster
— let principals decide whether to waive the current restrictions on cEOs walking the halls, engaging proactively with students etc. In practice, some principals may already be doing this.

Which riles better: "equity" or "woke"?
