Yes the right-wing hates public education. They resent having to subsidize the education of poor and would prefer vouchers they can use for private. They don't care about society's welfare it's all about them. |
What education? Are you lost? Clearly you missed the entire premise of this thread. There's no education going on in MCPS anymore. Even the teachers are attesting to that fact. |
True, the only way the GOP can grow it's base is by dumbing down the population. This has culminated in all out war on public schools. All these things like lax gun laws or the decline of consequences are part of their plan to destroy public schools. |
You mean the far-right, which has been investing heavily in spreading misinformation on anonymous baords. |

We have a failure on both the extreme right and left. But in MoCo, clearly it is the left at fault. Covid shutdowns, a focus on equal outcomes at the expense of quality, and a failure to impose discipline.
It is a disaster. |
What do you believe is untrue? |
+1 This is MoCo. Not a Republican in sight. |

This is disappointing and we parents should be vocal about opposing the lack of accountability our children have been held to. We should be vocal supporters of discipline and teacher autonomy. We should push our schools to push our children outside of what’s comfortable.
AND I know my child is getting a top notch education in MCPS because we are on top of them and hold them to high standards of personal responsibility and respect for their teachers and themselves. Thank you to the fantastic teachers who have made such a difference in our DCs lives. |

Left wing: give out phony diplomas
Right wing: expel and flunk. Neither of these is a solution. |
Every school |
Just like Baltimore City, not a Republican in sight. |
They got rid of the 50% rule. |
The policies may apply across all schools (though actually, principals seem to be implementing differently at different school). But since students' norms, aspirations, and home-life pressures are different, the policies end up with pretty different effects at different schools. My husband is a sub and he has been deliberately choosing to go to different middle schools over the past year. He said there is an enormous difference in student behavior (in class on time, obeying teacher, paying attention) in different schools. Clearly, a sub doesn't see the breadth of issues. But in some schools, students follow instructions, pay attention, etc. Of course, they tend to talk to their friends, etc. But he said that after he tells them to pay attention, there's ten minutes of quiet before the volume becomes too high once again. At other schools, kids are in hallways, they don't have any response when he tells them to pay attention. There are of course many good kids, but the fact that others in the class don't have any discernible response when he tells them to sit down means that no one learns enough. He subbed on the last day of school last year, and the co-teacher reached out to some students saying that if they spent that last hour in class to finish/turn in three missing assignments, they would pass the class (if not, they would get an E). And he said the kids just said they didn't care what their grade was, and didn't do those three assignments. |
That’s interesting because if I log on Parent Vue right now, and there is an assignment that is not graded for my kids (Blair), the default score is 50%. In every class. |
