Which would you hate more: Commanders leave DC, or Commanders stadium in your neighborhood?

Do you know the average price of homes in DC?
Do you know there are neighborhoods where the starting price for a single family home is over 2 million dollars?
Do you know there are 8 figure homes in DC?

Question is whether or not the city will expend the time and resources to try for a fifth time to take over the RFK site. I doubt it. And I don’t think the city councilors were terribly keen on the Commanders returning to DC in the first place.

I predict a new stadium with entertainment village will be built on the current site in Landover, maybe a quarter mile closer to the Metro where the residential sprawl currently is.

Nope. They didn't go through the name change and new ownership to stay in Landover.

That optimism is nice. But the Washington Post story that was just posted online pretty much says the RFK stadium dream is over. What's shocking is how much of the writing in the Post is obviously AI generated, like the story on the RFK deal falling apart in real time. Probably cheaper than all the editors that were laid off.

For Landover however, "The Dream is Still Alive" as the famous hit song goes.

Maybe not RFK but it's going to be in DC...although NoVa might still be in the mix.

It was actually passed as a separate bill. Not part of the CR.

I hope we get a mixed use space and keep the soccer fields, but who knows.

We will get a stadium that is too big for all but three current musical acts (Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Bruce) ad it will sit empty more than 340 days a year. Sure, our schools are struggling, we have tougher laws on flavored tobacco near schools than pot shops near schools, our traffic is a nightmare, parts of the city flood regularly, and it is unclear if anyone at the helm wants to fix anything, but we will have a football stadium that we residents pay for in any variety of ways that will in no way get us our money back.

Hail!

What's DC's justification for this stadium?

That it will make tons of money for the city.

It definitely will not, stadiums almost never make money for cities.

+1

It will be used 20 times a year if we’re lucky.

SoFi has. I think RFK will be modeled after that.

SoFi Stadium was paid for mostly by the team owner, who spent more than $5 billion on it. If it's making money for the city of Inglewood, that's probably the reason. I would be MUCH more in favor of a new stadium at the RFK site if the Commanders owners pay for it.
