Why is Notre Dame bot as selective as it's peers?

Maybe just everyone else right and you are wrong and it has nothing to do with Catholicism and bigotry but more with your little girl stomping of your feet and getting upset with us when we don't agree. Most of us will never agree that Notre Dame is right up there as an Ivy but when you claim that and are challenged you offer no citations except some irrelevant statistic about endowments. Then when challenged again you default to “Oh just stop!” (I can hear the stomping of feet). Then you make another unsupportable bizarre assertion about Notre Dame having a “national brand virtually unmatched in higher education”. Oh really? That’s quite a claim! And without any supporting documentation! Then you cry “It’s not going anywhere” (more stomping of feet) “because I say so!” then the childish “oh you are all bad people because you hate Catholics” then calling us “laughable”. Maybe the problem is you and the infantile way you try to argue. Well, I’d say more but it’s getting late so tah dah for now!

NP. So hateful! And at 1:49 in the morning. Hope the hangover isn't too bad today. Do you have the day off?

Honestly, I don't know if endowment impacts ratings. I really don't care. But your rant and obsession about this is quite bizarre.

Is ND strong national brand? Of course it is!! It is known for both strong academics and athletics. My kid loves having both in one school and yes he likes that it is Catholic. We are observant Catholics and love having the beautiful basilica on campus, the grotto, and a rector in each dorm. The warmth on campus is like nothing you will ever find at an institution with its stature. But clearly you don't value these things. And that's OK!

Why are you so threatened by Notre Dame?

No one's threatened by ND, PP started this trying to attack other schools.

LOL
It has not been falling. In fact, it's the opposite.
The biggest factor in this business is $$$ as in any other business.

ND is #7 in Endowment ranking.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colleges_and_universities_in_the_United_States_by_endowment

Only Harvard, MIT, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, and UPenn are better than ND.
You can see the huge correlation between the endowment ranking and USN&WR college ranking.
It'll only go up. People are clueless LOL

Endowment has nothing to do with rankings or desirability

I don't know. I just looked at the USNWR ranking factors and 10% is based on "financial resources per student" and 3% on "average alumni giving rate." Endowments provide a cushion for universities that enable them to use their cash more freely to benefit the student experience. If a university has a very small endowment, they are, unfortunately, using cash to attend to things for which endowments might have been beneficial. It could be why ND is consistently ranked higher than Georgetown year after year. I am not saying it is a huge impact, but there is definitely something there.

There is actually a paper out there that specifically says large endowments impact rankings on USNWR. https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w30404/w30404.pdf

The paper also indicates that endowments are not benefiting admissions of underserved populations, which is a separate issue altogether. But the bottom line is that endowments do impact rankings.

From the paper:

You must be brain dead if you don't see the clear correlation between college ranking and endowment ranking.

It doesn't matter how it got started, and I actually don't see anyone attacking other schools...only people attacking ND, which seems to be quite common around here.

All that "strict Catholic teaching" in Calculus class, right? You have no idea what you are talking about.

It has a smaller applicant pool than many of the other top schools because it’s Catholic and many top applicants write it off for that reason alone. The applicant pool that it does attract is supremely qualified and the students that it admits enroll at a very high rate.

Notre Dame
1410-1550
Emory
1430-1530
Georgetown
1380-1530
WashU
1490-1570
Cornell
1450-1560
I could keep going, there all sky high.

Georgetown doesn’t superscore and wants all tests. So any comparison with Georgetown is inaccurate when other scores allow as many takes as you want and subscores from different sittings..

And comparing ND (non-Jesuit) with a Jesuit institution (GU or BC) is ridiculous as well.

Why? Who are these people who keep insisting there is some huge difference here? Lots of us have kids and ND and BC.

Indiana is a red state that hates women.
ND breeds handmaidens.

As someone who spent time there and almost attended (accepted), it is very disappointing to see how things have played out for ND in recent years.

Since 4% of American Catholics are Black, and only 68% of these were born in the U.S., this should not be surprising. ND’s student population is largely Catholic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Catholicism

The state where the campus is has nothing to do with anything. Stop grasping for straws. Handmaidens...lol. How about ND breeds supreme court justices. Yes, that's more like it.

Too bad you didn't attend. You missed out on a great education.

Thanks for sharing. I knew that initial post on this thread was bogus.

The state absolutely matters for anyone with a uterus or cares about people with a uterus.

I don’t travel to red states and certainly wouldn’t choose to LIVE there for four years.

I got a better education elsewhere — that produces SCOTUS justices who aren’t lying, religious extremists.

Got it. We love our trips through Ohio and Indiana to visit our child. People there are polite and not angry like you. You probably tailgate and have road rage issues too. Yup...you're definitely that type.

They took 3 kids from our CA school this year. 2 are at the top of the class. Totally made sense. One doesn't have any APs and isn't an athlete or urm. Just a random legacy. Shocking and a gut punch to all the rest of the top 10% kids who applied. Does this answer your question.
