Man killed in Tyson’s Corner shooting

Anonymous
Shooting someone RUNNING AWAY (and, even worse, unarmed) because they stole something (I think it was designer sunglasses) is just barbaric. It's not done in other civilized countries. You might as well say that a human life is worth less than designer sunglasses. You think other countries don't have shoplifters? You think that executing shoplifters is routine elsewhere?

PS. My teen told me shoplifting from stores like Sephora and Claire's was rampant among MS girls in her NOVA public MS when and was probably the reason she and friends were followed around when they shopped in groups.

Barbaric? Go to the other thread about stealing. It should be fine to just walk in to a store and take stuff, amirite?

Apparently that is what most businesses have decided, yes. Better than getting their employees killed or being sued for killing the thief.

I think we should charge criminals with theft, even for small things. You know what else I believe in? Due process.

It's an unusual story. Stealing is not new, there are stories all the time about robberies, shoplifting. Why did they chase this man all the way to the wood? Why did they shoot
Was he acting erratically, did they think he was armed and dangerous? Were they just having a bad day and did the wrong thing?

It's never okay to steal. But you shouldn't have to be executed for it. If you think that's acceptable, move to Saudi Arabia where you can witness public mailings (cutting off of hands) of thieves or teletransport ourself to 18th century England where thieves and pickpockets were hung to death.

Sorry for typos--public maimings and yourself, not ourself.

It's really not asking too much to ask police not to summarily execute unarmed shoplifting suspects pre-trial.

At Tysons, they usually don't. Maybe there was something different about this one.

Imagine if IRS agents did this because you screwed up on your taxes by $600. Is that also OK?

Agents of government should not be executing people in public. Police are agents of government.

I hope they go to prison. You don’t shoot unarmed people for shoplifting, period. At a minimum they should be fired for incompetence.

+1,000. And there needs to be a national registry implemented, si they can’t just go get hired as a cop in the next town over.

You are everything that is wrong with our criminal justice system and the reason why crime of all types continues to increase in this country. He wasn’t shot because he was shoplifting and he wasn’t a victim. He was shot, because when the police tried to apprehend for shoplifting, he ran. He was a lifelong criminal with a long and violent history. The police shouldn’t have to risk their lives chasing him into the woods only to have him pull out a weapon and kill them. No sympathy for this POS.

You’re a disgrace.

Spoken like somebody who has no idea how law enforcement works. There was no threat to life. The Chief of Police said they have no located a weapon. The man was running from the cops who coincidentally keeping killing unarmed people.

With the increase in gun violence at Tysons, with the recent armed carjackings in Fairfax County, I expect there's a push to come down hard on crime here. DC, Maryland, Loudoun County may be fine with skyrocketing crime statistics but we are not.

Go crime somewhere else.

I hope this acts as a deterrent

It won’t.

At one time, the IRS had an enforcement arm. But Congress defunded them so they wouldn't have to live in fear of getting caught anymore.

For those asking what he shoplifted, it was a pair of designer sunglasses.

It appears he had no weapon.

So just let them run off with the stuff?

In every retail job I've worked, that is the policy.

And now look where we are.

If more criminals were shot for stealing will stealing slow down?

Yeah. Enforcement is enforcement. Lack of enforcement is lack of enforcement.

Shooting someone for stealing is not United States law. You are welcome to move to a country where it is the law. Bye.

It will.

There's a reason that crime is so low in Nova and in Fairfax county in particular.
