I don’t understand the cognitive dissonance of DC residents. They almost universally vote for progressive candidates, but are shocked at the lawlessness.

Because we know voting for republicans doesn’t help. There was this thing called “trying to overthrow the government” on a January 6 that a very famous Republican man tried to make happen. A Democratic lady saved our a$$es.

I will laugh at you every time you say Republicans are the one who can solve crime. No, they make it worse.

DP, but you are comparing apples to oranges with random armed carjackings and January 6th. Both crimes, but not in any other way comparable to each other.

Natural result of overpopulation and wealth inequality.

Do you really not realize how easy it is to simply google crime stats from republican controlled cities to show similar or worse crime rates? How craven of you to distort the facts just to promote partisan hate.

Absolute gaslighting. Crime is far, far worse in Democrat cities.

Repug or dem leaders don't matter for crime. Demographics control the numbers. It's all stats.

I don’t think I’m out of line to be worried.

You saw some citizens anticipating the legislation that would make metro free for residents.

You saw a mother and child redistributing wealth inequality.

There's a wide political span between Republicans and conservatives -- including rational liberals.

I don’t live in DC but do live in a large city. I’m aware of my surroundings but will never live in fear.

If you don’t live in DC I am not sure why your experience is relevant.

In DC, while it’s not a daily occurrence, about every 5 years or so a female jogger is murdered. This includes both on streets in populated areas considered “safe”, like Wendy Martinez being stabbed to death in Logan Circle, but more commonly murderers and sexual assaults are occurring on trails. The first one I remember is Joyce Chiang on the towpath in Georgetown, followed of course by Chandra Levy. While every time a woman goes out jogging in DC the risk is small, there is still nonetheless a real risk that many people take quite seriously, particularly sexual assault which is much more common.

I am not sure what value there is in diminishing that peoples real concern over there safety, particularly from another city.

In NOVA there was a really nice park with a circular walking trail right next to our townhome community. It was off a main road but fully surrounded by trees. Certain times of the day would be "silence is deafening" level of quiet and nobody else there. Maybe just one other person there- usually a working age male mid day during the week (red flag!). I always got the sense it would be the perfect place for a rape or murder but my husband thought I was completely nuts to think so. Most men don't have to think about these type of things I guess. Eventually I started going there only in a group then stopped going completely after someone hung themselves in one of the trees.

Prove it.

If democratic policy is the cause of the crime then why is Alaska the most dangerous state in the country while Vermont is one of the safest? Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama all the most dangerous while New Jersey and Connecticut the safest.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/01/13/most-dangerous-states-in-america-violent-crime-murder-rate/40968963/

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, looking at the latest data from 2020, Oklahoma had 342 homicides, that's a rate of 9 deaths per 100,000.

You can post baseless claims all day long but the facts clearly show that Democratic policies do not correlate to rates of violent crime.

The murder rate in 2022 was noticeably higher in states that voted for Trump in 2020 than in states that voted for Biden in 2020, though: https://www.axios.com/2023/01/27/murder-rate-high-trump-republican-states

It's almost as if crime increasing is a national trend, and it's not specifically because of any one policy choice made in D.C. that crime is going up here, too.

Look at Baltimore, LA, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Portland. New Orleans, or any of the highest crime in country cities.
All Democrat run.
All of them.
Proof right there, but then you knew that.
And so does everyone else that is honest with themselves.

The murder rate in red states is because of the high crime rates in Democrat controlled cities within those states.
Nice try.

In Louisiana, the rural murder rate is almost the same as the urban murder rate, and significantly higher than the nationwide metro murder rate:
