What is Youngkins political future?

I'd feel bad if this wasn't what residents voted for. It's ironic that NOVA democtats are the ones speaking up and not Pittsylvania County. Hopefully they enjoy the lack of jobs

As if you Beltway laptop “job” paper pushers give a damn what jobs bottom rung middle of nowhere proles have or don’t have.

+1
The only reason they're feigning outrage is because it's Youngkin. If this were McAuliffe or any other Democrat making the same decision, they'd be fawning over them. Youngkin has had no problem attracting businesses to VA and no doubt will continue to do so. Businesses that aren't a front for the CCP.

How much corporate welfare was Ford looking for? Hyundai got $2 billion from Georgia for the plant cited in the article - I’m guess Youngkin didn’t want to get in a bidding war and used Chyna as an excuse.

Any modern auto factory is going to require a bidding war because there are great paying factory jobs at the plant as well as all of the ancillary jobs created by the presence of a plant.

They aren’t great paying. And they aren’t even Ford jobs. It’s all a big anti UAW scam and luckily the commonwealth has leaders who saw through it. Michigan has idiot leaders and will probably give away the farm so they can “win” it.

This. Pretty amazing to read comments from liberals who apparently don't want to acknowledge “the reality is that the technology that in fact drives all that (batteries) is owned and dominated by the Chinese.” (Youngkin's words). Funny that they don't seem at all concerned about this:

"Ford Motor Company building a battery manufacturing plant in Virginia that would be operated by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., or CATL, a Chinese company that is the largest producer of electric vehicle batteries in the world and under the Ford agreement would retain ownership of the technology used in building the battery cells."

Good for Youngkin. Glad he's in charge and not some idiot Democrat.

It’s a transparent union-busting anti UAW scam. Peppering these factories all over the US and Mexico, running them through non union foreign owned subsidiaries, and getting boatloads of corporate welfare. American masses are soaked subsidizing this garbage, the jobs and awful benefits keep peasants in poverty, the headcount is never as high as they claim, and when the incentives run out they’ll just walk away from the toxic site. Rinse, repeat.

Socialism for the very rich, rugged individualism for the poor.

Virginia is a right-to-work state so regardless of concerns, neither a Democrat nor a Republican governor would use unions as a justification to thwart economic development.

I would think that the Governor is more concerned about the state giving generous economic development incentives that they offer for the profit of a Chinese company. There are some foreign companies, like BMW, that Virginia is comfortable providing incentives to locate in the state and there are others that they would not be comfortable using tax money to support. Not providing Virginia taxpayer money to a Chinese company is I think is a fair viewpoint. Not allowing a Chinese company to gain a foothold in a sourcing and processing minerals to take advantage of an EV tax credit that is designed to spur US industries is also a fair viewpoint.

Not to mention, allowing the Chinese to retain ownership of the technology used to make these batteries. Good on Youngkin.

Where is the BMW plant in Virginia?

His political future is dead. He has yet to seriously address the school shooting of the 6 year old. More and more details come out and he has only said one thing which was really nothing. It's not good for the optics with the crowd he's trying to keep.

I don’t get this. Wouldn’t the parents be responsible?

So for FoxConn Walker promised to give $3 billion in tax credits to FoxConn. Here the state has spent $200 million to attract business to a site and when it does the governor says no, I don’t like that it’s Chinese business because I’d rather have a political talking point than thousands of good paying jobs.

If you don’t see the difference you are blind/deaf/dumb.

So the only difference is amount of the subsidy? How does that make it better? $200 million is still a lot of money.

So yes the amount of the subsidy matters— if you can attract jobs by paying $1000/job that’s a lot better than paying $1 million/job. But more importantly the state has already spent that money to attract a business. If you/Youngkin thinks that was a bad idea then maybe say so sooner. Now that the investment has paid off and a private company wants to spend big dollars to bring thousands of jobs he is rejecting them? Youngkin isn’t complaining about the subsidy— he is complaining about the busines that wants to open.

This new fascist control of the economy where DeSantis and Youngkin want to decide what companies can operate is really troubling

A “Trojan horse” for China that would undermine policy efforts to strengthen the U.S. auto industry. Gov says he’ll work with Ford directly, but not with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., also known as CATL, involved. Good on him.
