Eye-opening numbers when comparing these schools to Lewis with 1686 students and to a lesser extent Mt. Vernon with 1943. Regardless of the politics involving those two schools, it is a significant display of resource mismanagement. FCPS should have acted long before the gap grew to such lengths where now any reasonable fix is construed as social engineering.

Resource mismanagement by Facilities and negligent, hypocritical oversight by Democratic School Board members like Karen Corbett Sanders and Karen Keys Gamarra who have talked out of both sides of their mouths for years.

And yet they continue to let the gap widen.

Just put all this WSHS kids back to Lewis.

No one should be moved back to Lewis until, at a minimum, they have replaced the under-subscribed IB program that few families want with AP.

My suggestion.

1. Assign Coates and new Silverline ES to HMS and HHS
2. Franklin Middle becomes an AAP center.
3. Crossfield ES feeds to Franklin Middle
4. Carson becomes a mini secondary taking kids from McNair, Floris and Fox Mill
5. WestField HS takes Oak Hill kids to provide relief for Chantilly
6. Centreville doesn’t expand to 3000.

You'd be creating a Westfield attendance island at Oak Hill, surrounded by areas zoned to New Carson SS, Oakton, South Lakes and Chantilly. Under your scenario, it would make more sense to move the part of Cub Run now at Chantilly to Westfield, so that all of Cub Run fed into Westfield, and then move more of Bull Run, which is currently a Centreville/Westfield split feeder, to Westfield.

Also not sure that HMS/HHS would have enough capacity for Coates and the growth near the potential Silver Line ES (which is currently in the Westfield district).

To pull more kids out of Chantilly, more of Greenbriar East could be moved out of Chantilly to Fairfax (if the City of Fairfax would go along with it).

You are right. My point is that Westfield would be in a position to give a relief to Chantilly whether it’s Oak Hill or Greenbriar East.

HMS and/or HHS would most likely be overcrowded but I think it’s the path of least resistance. Also it would make Langley happy because the overcrowded HHS means they are not going to take Great Falls kids.

FCPS can deal with the bad optics of an overcrowded high-performing school because at the end of the day the test scores are still good in the building despite overcrowding. FCPS would not be able to handle the criticism of an overcrowded and high-FARMs school like Herndon. That might mean an actual boundary change would be needed.

Westfield is too big already. They need fewer kids to get down to what FCPS says is the correct size for HS.

Who the hell cares? Why is what Langley parents want given any thought at all? No one cares what Centreville, Westfield, or Chantilly parents want (less crowded schools, not more crowded schools).

There is no rational reason why parents in McLean should have any input or say in a new Western high school and its boundaries. Nowhere near where they live.

Langley High is in McLean, but the Langley parents who don't want to see a new high school built because they think it might result in their getting moved to Herndon live in Great Falls, not McLean, and they live closer to Herndon than they do to Langley.

See https://gfca.org/Featured-News/7784012 (Great Falls Citizens Association identifying as one of four factors causing "concern" about potential future Langley boundary changes "[i]mpact of a potential new high school in Herndon").

Langley parents who live in McLean could care less, as this wouldn't affect them, and the McLean parents care more about getting an overdue addition than the boundaries of a new western HS far from their homes.

Do families in Greenbrier want their kids to go to Fairfax vs Chantilly though?
