This is correct. What seems to be happening is free bus service being offered as an offset for criminal enforcement for metrorail fare evasion. They are creating a separate-but-equal transport system where the poor people will be forced to use what will inevitably be a lower quality bus service while the rich will use metrorail - free from having to experience poor people. This is the future that they are creating. |
You clearly have never been to South Carolina or NY State. |
Incorrect. I can choose to ride either bus or rail everyday for work. I choose bus because it comes more frequently than rail. The rail service is so bad these days that it’s not worth riding. |
Should we charge some tuition for public schools? Public parks? Public sidewalks and roads? |
And you won’t be making that same choice when it’s free because (a) service will be worse and (b) you will feel uncomfortable. |
You pay property and income tax. |
Good news! It can pay for no-fare bus service, too! |
Have they removed roads because they couldn't afford them, in South Carolina and New York? |
I’m all for speeding up the buses but priority signals - in the absence of dedicated bus lanes - is a recipe for traffic chaos. There are enough drivers running red lights as it is. Plenty of cars would self-identify as buses if it meant they could get through an intersection quicker. |
A mobile home trailer park outside the city can do that, why ruin transit options for everyone? |
You’re comparing apples to oranges. Roads aren’t dynamic. Transit services are. |
Rich white dudes in ward 3 is not the typical bike rider in this city. It’s ward 1, 4 and 5 that are more likely to ride bikes. |
Even fewer people are going to ride the bus when they're filled with homeless people. |
We get the picture. You are a hobophobe. But do you have to remind us of this every second post? |
Bus service in DC is far more extensive than metro, and people from all walks of life use it. |
