My kids do attend, but this exact stuff is why we are leaving. It isn't a welcoming community.

I’m sorry you haven’t had a good experience. I’m not sure how this “exact staff” (reasonable questions about a just-announced HOS) could be the reason for that.

I thought we were better than this, pre-judging someone you have never met (or maybe met briefly when she was at the school), already deciding she is a "poor choice" and "bad fit." Look at the search committee. Look at the board members. They are Woods parents who want the same things we want for our children and our school. If you are a Woods parents, you know at least some of them and know they are good and thoughtful people. Do you have so little faith and trust in them? I agree that the announcement could and should have contained more information on why this choice was made, but we hold ourselves out to be a warm and welcoming community. It's not feeling that way reading some of these comments.

Exactly.

BTW, Danny Vogelman, HoS of WES, was formerly with MCPS. He has done great things for WES.

I'm glad to hear that it worked out well with WES! That's heartening. But Vogelman was head of Westland MS - which is a lot more similar in terms of population and the experience of exmissions to high schools to WES.
I am still awaiting more information from Woods about how this is going to be a great fit...

Bumping this thread, as we are considering Woods for our child. Any recent perspectives on how Woods is doing under the new HOS’ leadership? Thanks in advance.

I’m one of the PPs. I was skeptical of the selection but have been really pleased with the new HOS. She is very responsive and specifically listened to parent feedback on strengthening the math curriculum. We’re very happy overall. I don’t have kids in upper school so can’t speak to how outplacement is going compared to the previous HOS.

I was also concerned about outplacement- but for our kid, they got into everywhere they applied- including a very tough admit k-12 independent school (which was the first choice). Woods says they get kids into their top choice, and so far that seems to have been borne out this year.

I think the coming review of curricula will only strengthen things (science, for one, needs a review). It’s been a great experience
