This isn’t even definite. It’s just talks about it. Latin just wants to get this messaging out to try to stem the rapid waitlist Cooper is going thru.

Yup. Bait and switch.

Think before you commit, Cooperites.

While it's not definite, sounds like its pretty likely (according to chatter from both staffs). Of course, anything can happen in real estate.

Thanks for the heads-up. Today was the last day of the nine-day summer orientation at Cooper, and my kid is happy to be there and looking forward to the fall.

This. We went with Capital City instead. It was between them and ITS.

When my daughter did ballet at Kirov, the site just wasn't terrible. We zipped up North Cap to get there from Capitol Hill, there was always plenty of parking, the building wasn't loud or dark inside, and the grounds had some nice greenery. Not sure what all this fuss is about.

Then you must not have gone in the weekday morning around 8am or between 3-5pm because there is no way you can zip up North Capitol Street then. We did this drive from H St NE and on a really good day it took 20 minutes, bad day 40 minutes one way.

If you are coming from south of H St and eastern market, you can easily add another 20 minutes on top of that.

But your kid must be fluent in Chinese by now, mistaken for a native speaker at every turn. All worth it, right, here in the century of the Rising China?

Never said my kid went to YY. But you are just detracting from wanting to hear the truth. Why?

The traffic on North Capitol is real and it’s important families understand that. I suggest those considering do a test drive in rush hour and back from CH in September.

You could always move to the burbs, where a school bus would pick up your kids. Alternatively, buy or rent a house in-boundary for Deal. The reality is that no DC UMC family needs to take on the burden of a bad commute to a middle school charter in this Metro area.

Latin offers a bus. And then the kids take metro. Have no idea why a parent would be doing this commute in their car. Seriously.

Did you read the email? Even the “partnership” between the 2 schools for the site isn’t even definite.

Have you ever been involved in talks between 2 completely different organizations with different missions?

It’s way far from definite. It’s obvious it’s a PR strategy for Cooper.

I wouldn’t put all my eggs in 1 basket

Having read only the email that was posted here, whether the deal goes forward should be known in about two weeks. As an outside observer, I don't see the advantage of Latin announcing the possibility unless there was a high level of confidence. Has YY said anything?

Presuming the deal goes forward, I would look to LAMB's purchase of the Kingsbury building as a worst case scenario. LAMB's move-in was held up by a few households in the neighborhood; I don't see that being as likely for this spot.

We got an email today that the deal is going forward:

I am thrilled that this project continues to move forward. We have completed our due diligence process, we have signed an agreement with Washington Yu Ying, and we are planning to close on this property in less than 30 days. In almost six years, we have considered more than 50 different properties all across the city. To have finally settled on a site, halfway between our Second Street campus and our temporary Cooper campus at 711 Edgewood, and one that we can actually own, is beyond exhilarating.

So much for Latin’s promise to put the second campus EOTR!

This is more convenient to Capitol Hill than the original location! Yay! It also might cause some folks to order the two campuses differently sooner than one might have suspected.

Easier how? By car? Do most Latin parents drive their high schoolers every day LOL.

I’d think the lack of outdoor space would still be a negative.

Glad they have a space, but also glad that we didn’t take a chance on Cooper because this space is terrible.

Agree. Also unclear how the space will be shared with YY.

What other schools have shared campuses?
