Just so sad. This family had better be paid - in full.

Gibson wrote on September 1 that if her family ever saw the money from Oberlin, she “wouldn’t buy a house, or go on vacation, or leave Ohio,” but would instead “replace the compressors for the refrigerators and replace the fryers and proofers that we use for our dough . . . pay off the mortgages on my properties that I’ve taken out in the past few years . . . hire back employees and ramp up production.”

“While the Ohio Supreme Court’s recent decision has made us hopeful, if the money doesn’t come through within the next couple months, I’ll be forced to declare bankruptcy and shut the doors of Gibson’s for good,” Gibson added.

I didn't realize this, thank you.

Justice exists in this world.

Most of the money will go to the lawyers and to taxes.

The original incident was over 5 years ago and the verdict was three years ago. What evidence is there that this has harmed Oberlin graduates? No one is paying attention to it anymore other that RWNJ news sites.

Not sure if it would hurt graduates. It might hurt their recruiting.

The family members are dead except for the wife. The husband had to stop chemo for the trial. It's a tragedy

They have to pay 4 million in interest for not paying the 36 million suit. Tried to post in a previous thread but it was locked. Wondering if this hurts grads employment prospects? Conservatives seem to have gone from not even knowing the school to absolutely hating it.

Oberlin has been known as a very liberal college for at least 40 years.

And now it is just another liar suffering because it was afraid to stand up to the mob.

One data point-my very liberal teen isn’t applying there because she was so turned off by this. (To be fair, she has also ruled out schools for being “too pretty” and “too many Econ majors” so take it for what it’s worth!)

Except what they did was the opposite of liberal.

It was totalitarian bulliying of a small business in their community.

Liberals should hate it.

Same in our house. There was an awkward moment on our tour this summer when we walked down the street the bakery is on and the guide told us something about each business except the bakery. It was a very obvious omission/snub and drew more attention to it than there would have been if she had just said “and here’s a bakery that has muffins ready each day ay 7” or something benign.

I wish it was just this. Actually, one of the college administrators was part of the mob.

Saw an Oberlin sticker on a car the other day and had a visceral negative reaction. This is not the publicity they wanted.

Agree. I am a liberal/moderate and I hate this. Schools need to model thoughtful positions. This is a tragedy for this family and for the town.
