I think they are social constructed. Made up.
I don't think we have tolerance in American society for eccentricities.

Thank God parents who have to help children with these conditions can rely on medical science rather than your prejudices. We can both tolerate even celebrate quirkiness and make sure our children with ADHD/ autism/ sensory issues or whatever are getting the supports they need to flourish.

Though if we were still hunters and gatherers ADHD would thrive so in a way it is a social construct that it’s a negative trait.

Also I believe there is more ADHD because it’s hereditary and besides school a dominant/positive trait and more people wound rather screw on ADHD person because they are better hence more ADHD kids.

It’s idiotic they get 50% of the news coverage, plus all the other hoopla - including school toilet laws

Murders are even a smaller segment, but we give them lots of press and laws too. Same with surrogate mothers.

The point is, laws and airtime do not, nor have they ever, been meant to reflect population size.

Sure, but this ones really really lopsided.

It’s drivel, I get it’s enjoyable but so is the Internet. People use it to escape just like reading the internet.

Any argument you can make for reading non-fiction you can say the same about surfing the net.

People who get their ego from grammar and spelling are the same people that are having a heart attack reading my opinion.

Do you mean fiction?

Lol yes

So you believe that sitting down and reading Hamlet is the same as scrolling through TikTok?

OK.

😂😂😂😂

Yeah not a controversial argument so much as completely unconvincing …

Hamlet is a play that was never meant to be read. It was meant to be performed and watched.

Young people who want kids should take partner-seeking very seriously

Schools aren’t social service providers

Schools should all have nationalized, knowledge-based curricula

i agree with both of these and i also believe schools should have synchronized hours and calendars at a national level.

Sure but that’s not the world we live in. Assuming you aren’t the PP, I think you’ll agree that just because something is a social construct doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Money, race, beauty, etc are all social constructs.

That isn't just controversial, it's so ignorant. I have ADHD. Damn, I wished I had been diagnosed in my youth and gotten proper treatment. My life is night/day with treatment.

PP here you quoted. How is it ignorant? Have they decided definitively the cause of ADHD? And figured out why it’s prevalence is increasing so much? I’m not saying it isn’t real. I work every single day with ADHD kids - I am a resource aid at an elementary school. It is very much real. And sadly for some of these kids no amount of prompts and scaffolding and text to type and read aloud testing is going to make a difference. Some kids are success stories don’t get me wrong, but some of these kids I’m not even sure how they will graduate.

I’m sick that you are so judgmental of kids and parents and you work in a school. Read some books.

Take it up with your public school. They do t pay me enough to research your kid in my free time. Every single kid I work with has a massive screen addition. Massive. And is highly accustomed to bribes in order to comply on anything.

I don't like sushi. And I think the meatballs in grape jelly are beyond disgusting.

Hate Uggs, Crocs and Tevas.

I'm Presbyterian and I agree with you on everything but Seinfeld. We could be 90% best friends!

Tipping culture in the US where they ask/expect/guilt you into tipping almost any simple task now is very vulgar, but somehow it's been indoctrinated to us as "having proper manners" if you tip everything as generously as you can. It only enables this antiquated system to thrive and allows business owners to get away with more.

How do you explain how many more kids have it today? It is SO many more kids and not just because of additional diagnoses. It has to be environmental somehow.

Better diagnosis and less “send them to military school to sort them out” type solutions … it is better understood now.

Tons of credible medical research. If you work in schools, it would behoove you to do free courses on neuro diversity. (All kinds of minds offers training for teachers / school aids).

School and home need to partner to help these kids.

I think its clear that ADHD, and myriad other things, are 1) both genetic and environmental and 2) are more highly diagnosed these days because school has changed and demanded age-inappropriate behaviors from kids. So a lot of kids who would have likely not had school issues in the past are now experiencing problems. The line between normal childhood inattention and ADHD is blurred as the bar for acceptable childhood behavior gets higher and higher.

Please stop. this is supposed to be controversial. Just stop the arguing.

NP. I believe it. Public schooling has completely gone down the toilet as we’ve continually lowered the bar to cater to screen addicted kids.

That's because every book and every psychologist tells us, parents, to bribe our ADHD kids to get them to comply. Have you come up with a better solution after all of these years of experience you claim to have?

Only classically trained singers should be allowed to sing the National Anthem. It is not a cha-chs, rap, rock and roll, or ballad. Stop murdering the Star Spangled Banner!!!
