I took a History of Rock and Roll in college, and our professor said Pet Sounds is the best album of all time, hands down. The music was apparently way ahead of its time. Genius, apparently.
(I myself am not a Beach Boys fan).

The deal with Pet Sounds is that it is quite an important album, but that doesn't necessarily make it the best.

This!

It's my favorite U2 Album for sure.

Sorry, but I’m with the PP who suggested Achtung Baby. Better songs consistently AND more groundbreaking.

The songs from Achtung Baby are great. No doubt.

But the Joshua Tree album as a listening experience is just amazing. IMO best of all time.

What do you mean by an amazing listening experience? Is that any different than if it's a better album or not? I'm not sure what you are trying to say here. Does a better experience mean you get up and dance more? Something else?

Nirvana - Nevermind
Pearl Jam - 10
Dr Dre - The Chronic (really tied w/ 2001, though)
Outkast - Aquemini
Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Weezer - Blue

God, I miss the days when we would pop in a tape or CD and listen to the ENTIRE album. Those days are long gone.

We could be friends, or the same person

The experience of listening to the whole album as a unit. Not a series of songs.

Were you born in 1979? Appetite for Destruction is still an album that I can listen to from start to finish when going for a run - 35 years later. It is amazingly good.

And I have still not heard anything that sounds like Aquemini. Complete genius.
