Youngkin’s goal is to create as much chaos as possible in public schools to justify expanding charter schools and implementing school vouchers so his cronies can make money off for-profit schools. It has nothing to do with public health, it’s all about $$.

FCPS put out a statement yesterday saying that they will continue to follow the CDC guidelines and require that masks be worn. They said they are "reviewing" the EO that Youngkin put out in the meantime. Read the EO. There are plenty of holes in it. We shall see. So far I think the EOs are just red meat for his base.

FCPS is trying like heck to avoid a shut down. Youngkin is making a shut down more likely.

FCPS has an option. They have a full online school program going for all grades and subjects. This was put into place at the beginning of this school year. Teachers were recruited to be solely online teachers for those who cannot or do not feel comfortable going in person or who don't want to wear a mask. I believe that if someone is uncomfortable with the mask mandate this would be their option. So they still receive a free public education. The parents had the option to decide on this last spring.

I feel so bad for the teachers. I have a friend who is pregnant who is a teacher in VA. She’s been fighting like hell to teach her kids over the past two years. And she’s really tired and now has to deal with this unnecessary additional level of risk to her own baby as well as the kids she teaches? So sad.
They are going to lose even more teachers.

It's hard for me to believe that we cannot wear masks even if it's just to help each other feel more comfortable with all of this. Are masks that big of a deal? I substitute teach and wear one all day. No big deal. The kids wear them and don't mind at all. I would rather err on the side of caution, wouldn't you? And believe me, teaching is stressful enough on a good day.
