Netflix’s Don’t Look Up

It was meh. Idiocracy was much better and this was trying way too hard. They must not think much of their audience because they sure felt they needed to hammer the same points home over and over.

PS the one part that I actually thought was funny was JL's obsession with the snacks.

I think it’s reflecting the relentless nature of the real-life idiots who have been constantly pushing the limits of the absurd over the last 6 years - especially the last two years.

I thought it was massively depressing mostly because it felt like reality not satire.

I was kind of wondering what Timothee Chalamet was doing in it until the table scene, and wow.

Meryl Streep continues to amaze as does Cate Blanchett. But the entire cast was great.

He didn’t say much at the table. ?

Hated this movie so much.

None of the characters were likeable, except J Law’s character. Drove me nuts they had her hookup with that gross, crusty homeless guy.

Leo’s character made me sick. Nice guy who has an affair because he got famous and wanted some fun. Total POS and his wife should have let him die alone.

Ending was terrible. Felt like when a guy gets you all revved up, but then busts in 30 seconds and rolls over and falls asleep. Like hello, I’d still like a happy ending.

Exactly. Trumpsters are too stupid to understand irony and sarcasm.. and to busy ranting about CRT

So funny. “I don’t want to get political [about science].”

I’m guessing that the MAGAs won’t like the movie much.

I was wondering why the Rotten Tomato viewer ratings weren’t higher, and DH thought it was because of Trumpers not liking it.

You are nuts to bring Trump into a movie, deranged much..

It got low ratings because it was basically pretty bad. I thought the beginning was interesting until it spiraled out of control.

Wow, you really hung in there, champ.

I feel like this is kind of the start of the next movie that needs to be made. The political idiots and business sharks only get in these positions of power because we have voting citizens who can't defer gratification long enough to make it through more than the first ten minutes of a middle-brow movie.

We have created a country where many think mainly with "gut" and can't handle focusing on anything that doesn't give them an instant dopamine hit with limited intellectual investment. End stage capitalism - a life so easy and comfortable that a movie that doesn't grab attention immediately in first ten minutes is doomed with a subsection of society.

Or maybe it was just boring?

Is science boring too?

I was dying laughing when they told Leo “no math” when he was going on TV. DH is a physicist and he said at the same time as Leo, “It’s all math!”

I know! I guess it was like a CNN, or Entertainment tonight where no one really reports news or has to think. Some good lines here and there, but about the middle it started to go south for me.

This reminded me of When Mars Attacks. A lot of great actors, but a really crappy movie. Same here.
Meryl Streep is similar to the character she played and was fitting she got eaten first, lol. Still overall I'd give it 2 stars like the other reviewers.

Yes! Reminds me of Mars Attacks, including all the people insisting it was a good movie, largely because of the cast.

I still hold a grudge about spending money on movie theater tickets for that one.

Yep. Now everyone admits it sucked, lol. Also, like Black Panther which certainly wasn't this bad, but it was very mediocre. I was looking forward to that as well and it was very slow among other things.

One the characters was a parody of Trump’s son! Of course he would factor into the discussion.

Yes, years later we have collectively stopped engaging in the farce that Mars Attacks was good. I think the same will be true of Don’t Look Up.

But I will fight you on Black Panther. That movie was awesome. Mars Attacks and Don’t Look Up will end up in the same place, but Black Panther will endure. Amazing film.

Meryl Streep is my least favorite actress in the whole wide world. I thought she was perfect for her part.

I never laughed once. As someone up thread said, it hit too close to home. Ever since Sandy Hook my eyes were opened to how horrible our society is. I could totally see this happen
