DC Public and Public Charter Schools
DP. Well, apparently the commitment still stands. Thank goodness. |
NP but I know this has info on hospitals https://www.miemssalert.com/chats/Default.aspx?hdRegion=5 |
| DCPS should be virtual until Monday, 1/17/21 |
Yes, I think there are some errors in the previous posts. The way I read it: if you get covid (test positive), you can end isolation after 5 days if you are asymptomatic at that time or you have symptoms that are resolving. This applies to everyone regardless of vaccination status. For close contacts of a case, no quarantine if you are boostered or recently vacced. For everyone else, quarantine is down to 5 days. I can’t believe I’m coming around to this idea, especially because my kids are already driving me crazy on winter break, but I think I agree. I’m not worried about them getting COVID, but school chaos isn’t good. The last three days before break were a mess, and it has gotten a lot worse since then. |
Our kids' school wasn't a mess before the break, and I hope the Mayor's conviction not to cave in to a blanket school closure stands. If any individual school is a mess to the point that it can't operate, close that one temporarily. The situation won't be much different on January 17 than it is now, and it's going to be another slippery slope toward a never-ending closure. |
You may have a point about individual school closures but the slippery slope argument is completely ridiculous. |
Oh really? How can you say that after the past two years? |
Agree. The peak of Omicron may pass but it won't get substantially better for a long time. If you close school until the 17th you're just delaying when outbreaks may occur. Unless the school is going to pivot to virtual until like APRIL (which, god please no), it doesn't matter when it reopens. |
Hahahaha aahhhh.... Last time a 2-week closure turned into more than a year for most schools!! Now again, a WTU faction (Core) is advocating for closure and to not reopen until some arbitrary metric with an uncertain date is met. Let's not be naive! |
Same. Our school had cases, but otherwise, school went on as normal. The idea of a blanket shutdown is insane and will be far more harmful to our kids than covid. |
I do think that the mayor is committed, however if she gets too much pressure from the DC Council she may cave like last time. Upon emailing councilmembers i got vague answers such as that school would open if it was "safe". The CDC has already said that opening schools is safer for kids than having them shut down. I'm worried that they will ignore the public health guidance and move forward with the shutdown or that they will provide so many authorizations for schools to close based on absent staff that there will be a defacto shutdown. The absent staff argument to me seems like an excise because there is no reason to shut an entire elementary school for example (as has been done) due to the fact that certain classrooms cannot be staffed. Be sure to contact your Councilmember in addition to the mayor. |
No way. Virtual has a proven track record of failure. This is an overly slippery slope that will wind up with worthless, virtual school for the remainder of the year. No f-ing way. |
They are NOT advocating for closure! They want the following: |
Number 2 is advocating for closure when metrics hit a certain number. That is not consistent with public health guidance that says that schools should remain open. There is already additional time off for teachers (January 4th and 5th minus however much time it takes to administer the COVID test). |
