BOE - who are people voting for?

Rita is all about the weed and she just became the PTA president for this race. AND she is a apple ballot candidate. I will not be voting for Rita.

I am voting Kim, Diaz, and Stewart. No incumbents. Almost don't want Stewart because she is on the Apple ballot.

The Montoya-as-legal-advocate-for-supply-chain-safety-of-medical-marijuana = dope-dealer-who-wants-pot-in-our-schools trope is really over the top. You're as bad as the one here who screams that right-wingers are so subhuman as to have no business even considering a run.

And this is the problem. It’s YOUR vote. Make YOUR choice. It’s not collective agreement vote. There have been several forums, several articles, all of which can be looked up. Determine your priorities, research the candidates, and then cast you ballot.

And yet I still want to hear what others think. Feel free to move on if you don’t care.

DP. I get it OP. Personally, I voted for Zimmerman. I like what she has to say and I think she would bring a fresh perspective to the board as a current ES teacher.

I am also voting Zimmerman

Not saying it isn't. Or alcohol. Or much more dangerous stuff.

The characterization of the candidate is way off, though.

It’s not a stretch. I don’t believe it’s way off.
You are simply naive.

So she isn’t a marijuana advocate?

So you can't read even a few posts above? A legal advocate for supply chain safety for medical marijuana (unlike the mischaracterization of promoting dope in schools).

Or are you just trying to make the unstated impression the most recent word for others to see?

You need to read. No one said that she is promoting dope in schools except you.
Seemingly, you see a link in her advocacy and weed in schools.

My friend is on the board of a small K-8 private school -- not one of the "big name" schools around here. She's encouraging everyone to vote for the incumbents because the more MCPS continues in the current downward trajectory, the more people are interested in moving to private and that benefits them.

Eh? I'd say that you need to read and apply context. "All about the weed" isn't enough for you, even though it's clear aim is to detract from the candidate with lack of proper nuance? Go a few pages back and see the dope-in-schools posts from which this draws.

Anonymous wrote:Does each BOE member focus on a certain area or issue, e.g. spec ed? If they do, where can we see what each current member's expertise or focus is? If they don't have a specialized area, how can the structure of the BoE be changed so 1-2 members each focus on a topic? I likely missed any information on what exactly they do, so please link or discuss.

In a way, this happens via the board committees. There are five committees, with 3 or 4 board members serving on each.

With the current marijuana and drug use problems that our schools are experiencing, the last thing that we need is a literal advocate for said drugs. No matter how good her intentions are or how noble her work is, an advocate for marijuana is not what MCPS needs.
