Teachers do not want iReady or IMPACT. Every signature counts!

I understand some may not think teachers have a ‘right’ to help decide our evaluation but we are simply asking for a voice. We still want accountability but IMPACT does not help teachers grow. We are also wasting money on bonuses and lining the pockets of those invested in IMPACT.

Please read for my information and you can decide for yourself if you’d like to sign and support teachers.

What metrics do teachers want included in IMPACT? At various times, I've seen criticism of including PARCC (now CAPE) scores, subjective principal discretion, and now iReady. What I've never seen is what should be included.

There needs to be a mechanism for rewarding effective teachers. I agree the iReady testing is probably not the best way, but it would be good to know what teachers think would be better.

We are discussing but even having an evaluation like MCPS would be much better. Theirs is focused on growing the teacher and reward good teachers by lessening the amount of times they have to be evaluated.

We do not wish to be evaluated on how ‘committed’ we are to the school, iReady testing, or the like. It doesn’t align to CAPE or the curriculum.

I'm a DCPS teacher (but not a DC voter) and I do think Impact has some big issues but...having seen how it was back in Maryland (albeit quite a while ago) I think there does need to be something for accountability in place. Also, iReady scores are like 3.75% of my overall Impact score.

You think MCPS is doing WORSE than DCPS?

Also IMPACT is 15% of my score. Which I don’t care about. It’s the fact that iReady is trash.

Just like IMPACT is trash, accountability where? Real accountability would be ensuring every student makes gains -at least a full year’s worth. With some caveats like they cannot be missing 30,40,50+ days of school.

I say this as a teacher who has been highly effective 9/9 years teaching.

Maybe you should have run someone against him….

Useless.

Mendelson is running for DC Council Chairman unopposed in the Democratic primary, so he will easily win the election.

I'm in MCPS now after DCPS. Do you know what everyone constantly talks about in DC? IMPACT. Do you know what absolutely no one talks about in MCPS? Evaluations. They are not a big deal. Teachers are held accountable, but as professionals. IMPACT is hardly based on good teaching. It's admin favorites, it's sucking up, it's bs. It's all anyone talks about and it drains you.

Sell me an alternative teacher accountability tool, OP, that isn't just your boss writing an evaluation or no rating at all, just give everybody a pass.

This year, my evaluator recorded my lesson, used AI to create a transcript of the lesson, and used the transcript to have ChatGPT evaluate me based on the observation rubric.

I got a 1 (minimally effective) because my classroom was quiet for half my observation. Students were writing a CER.

Teachers aren’t asking to NOT be evaluated. All teachers receive evaluations! We want an evaluation system that helps teachers grow, not punishes them based off someone’s 30 minute observation. MCPS has a great system for this.

MCPS’s is decent.

I don’t have to sell you anything though, since you seem to think that teachers inherently do not want accountability.

Accountability isn’t an issue, IMPACT doesn’t hold anyone accountable. My first year teaching I was 20 years old and got highly effective and definitely was not a top teacher at my school. But hey, the principal loved me - I stayed from 7-6 almost every day cause I really didn’t know wtf I was doing.
