And over what time period?
I am alarmed to have gained 7 pounds in about 9 months, last (light) period was early April. |
|
30 pounds over 7 years including 15 over the past 15 months. My eating is definitely better than it was in my 30/ and early 40s and I walk a lot more since I got two large dogs and stopped driving to work.
I think I’m at an extreme end of the weight gain though. I started HRT and it maybe helped but then I had trouble with my pharmacy getting it and I haven’t had time to go get a new script so that maybe it part of th big run up in the past year. But it’s basically like my entire system reset and I went from being a skinny person who could eat whatever and never exercise for the first 45 years of my life to being a slightly overweight person now, despite decent (not perfect) diet and activity. |

I've been in menopause for 2 years and been on HRT since. I gained 5 lbs and then lost it after going on Cymbalta, which curbs my emotional eating. I'm average in size (5'8", size 8).
fwiw, my mother hasn't gained a pound -- her belly is a little soft at 80, but she's always been very thin at 5'10" and something like 125 lbs. |
| still in peri here and each year I eat less, is this not going to work for me? (I also have thyroid disease). Will I still gain? |
| About 5-7 pounds so far, but seems to be leveling off. |
| 30 pounds over about 2 and a half years -- 20 suddenly then I lost 10 of those, regained, and then recently gained 10 more. Planning to talk to doctor about HRT and GLPs. |
| None, because I took up running. This was before GLPs. |
| 20 lbs in 2 years and leveled off there for the past year. The first 10 pounds were "vanity" weight, the next 10 pounds bother me more. Still in peri. Last period was in November. |
| OP. thanks for these. I have always had a BMI of 18-19 effortlessly, so this is a lot for me. Diet has not been great the past 1-2 years and I have started changing that! |
| Went from 99-120 give or take over 3 years. Not happy. Was always thin my entire life so fine to gain some, but 20+ is a lot. |
| I went the other way- I gradually lost about 20 pounds between my mid-forties and 50 and I’m holding steady there at almost 60. I think part of it was just coming out of the stressful early parenting years, part was ramping up exercise by a lot (a lot of HIIT and more strength training), and part was gradually cutting food portions and substituting some carbs and sweets for healthier options. A big part of it was also a stressful divorce, nothing virtuous. 🤷🏻♀️ |
| I started menopause and stopped breastfeeding my last kid at the same time. I have gained about 30 lbs since then, but I was underweight when I stopped at 105 and 5'6". |

I slowly gained about 50 pounds over 6 years, from 2020-2025. This was the time of the start of COVID and perimenopause to menopause and a lot of bad habits developed. I’ve always struggled with my weight and my metabolism went way down. I kept trying to get it off and would lose a little then gain a little more.
I went on a glp1 a year ago and lost it all in 1 year easily and now have the energy to get back exercising again. I don’t plan on stopping taking it. |
| ^ I’m currently 150 and 5’2”. I was up to 200. |
| I've gained 40 pounds over the course of about six years. |
