Haven’t lived in the area since like, 2001. Moving back this year and have two boys. All I remember from youth soccer is that my friends Braddock road soccer team won a national championship and sent like all the guys to D1 soccer schools afterwords. Are they still good or have things changed in 25 years?
I even remember the team name. Warhawks. lol. |
A lot has changed since then. In their case, a whole lot. It depends on age and what you are looking for. |
| No, they are not still good. |
Boys? u12 Pre-ECNL and U13 ECRL please? |
| Warhawks, man you are taking me down memory lane. I remember playing that team back then. The soccer landscape is completely different unfortunately. I suggest getting up to speed on the mess of youth soccer and then DMV, which is next level craziness. I would focus less on is BRYC good because the crazes will come out in full force on this form and get educated on the pay to play system and what DMV has done to maximize profits and minimize talent consolidation. If you want an even bigger laugh, check out ODP. |
The Warhawks were pay to play too… |
Around Braddock Road area, the strongest boys program is SYC. People outside the club dislike them but they consistently put out the strongest boys teams and are highly competitive. A bit farther out you can go to Arlington and maybe Alexandria for the U12 and U13 ages. SYC and Alexandria are part of MLSN and Arlington is ECNL. Higher level in the "pyramid" is DC United. |
$300 plus tournaments is hardly comparable to today. You are the first person I've heard argue that the system was pay to play ie in the same context as today's system. Please share articles that indicates 2001 = to today. Or are you just being argumentative to say that we had to pay something and thus pay to play? Sigh |
Articles about pay to play from 2001? What are you on? |
Seriously? The 1999 warhawks produced Abe Thompson and Clarence Goodson, both of whom played professionally (didn’t Clarence also make the world cup roster one year??) , not to mention about every other guy on that team playing d1 after graduation. I wouldn’t call them pay-to-play. Abe Thompson didn’t need to bribe anyone to let him on their team in the late 90s. |
Yeah those two guys torched me back in the day. Abe’s injuries at UMD were unfortunate. Clarence had a nice run though. |
Our high school year book, on the boys soccer page, said something along the lines of “team strategy- pass the ball to Abe”. lol. Funny in retrospect given that Clarence had the more dominant career but man, they were both a treasure to watch on the pitch. |
| 4 TDS in one game! have a seat Al Bundy |
I’m embarrassed that I googled this and couldn’t figure out the joke (other than knowing about Al Bundys touchdowns) |
“Pay to play” means they had to pay fees and their coach. Bribing? What are you talking about? |
