I have recently realized that I may have missed the boat on what a mature woman should be doing in terms of personal grooming.

I have typically worried only about edges during the summer/swimsuit season, and beyond that have been pretty much au natural. I am not too voluminous, but I could probably stand to groom more. I am wondering if I am the only woman who doesn't do much or even knows what I should be doing, so I would appreciate your input.

What is it that the modern, professional woman does down there these days? Are there several options that are the most common? Or is everyone different? And does it all require going to a salon, or there are some things you can do at home?

Thank goodness for this anonymous thread. Thank you.

I prefer my hair short or non-existent all year round. I use depilatory lotion weekly.

Best thread title ever.

I get brazilian waxes. It's so smooth and clean and I feel more hygenic and sexier. I sometimes I leave a little landing strip, but it's just for show. Everything down down down there is gone. Only thing that sucks with waxing is that you have to let it grow out before you get it done.

I want to look into some sort of laser hair removal, so I would love to hear from people who have done that.

Name of product, please.

I didn't link because I've had mine long enough that they no longer sell the exact model. Kinda like this one, which seems to get good reviews:

Beard trimmer.

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-T980-Vacuum-Trimmer/dp/B000FEF1V4/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1288037141&sr=1-1

I use my husband's. Everything comes apart and can be washed, so don't freak out people. Although I know you will anyway !

If by mature you mean 40+ that would be me. I do the brazilian with the landing strip--I do feel a little shy about the 100% Brazilian in the locker room for the pool. But then I am not one of those naked strutters. And before you flame, you exotic bath house denizens, I get it. When I'm abroad I feel less inhibited about public nudity.

America is a puritanical place, when in Rome, etc.

Here's the problem with the trimmers or a scissors- once they are cut the hair is very sharp and painful. Pain lasts for days.

OP here---yes, this. Whenever I attempt a trim, it is so itchy and uncomfortable that I dread another attempt---which led to my natural state. So how do others mitigate this? Is it all or nothing ---literally?

I do the same as you, OP. Am going to get laser removal around the edges before summer though because doing anything is a pain and I'd like to go to the pool without having to plan ahead. Plus with 3 kids I'm lucky to have time to shave my legs.

I do the beard trimmer (body trimmer by norelco, also off amazon). Leaves hair very sort but never cuts me and is not itchy (now shaving with a razor can be itchy). I tweeze the line. Hurts but used to it. Would prefer to wax, but don't want to drop $50 on my groin each month, and have been married for years now. Basically I just keep it short and neat.

Me, this. Age 43. Actually I don't tweeze the line bc that would take 4 hours. I use Nad's cold wax large muslin strips to do the inner thigh / line. I sit on a closed toilet seat and do it and it takes 5 minutes, then I jump in the shower. A couple of thoughts ....

1. I don't feel the need to do laser or pay $$ for complete 102% hairlessness because, candidly, if some mom at the pool is noticing 3 stray hairs I missed, then her face is too close to my cootch and that is most definitely HER problem for staring. I do a decent job, not pristine perfect.

2. I've been married 14 years. If someday my 44 yr old husband suddenly suggested that I should bare it all because it was "hot" or something, I would conclude he has been looking at porn, and I would tell him to F.O. Just because the kids are insisting on the pre-pubescent bare look does not mean old marrieds need to change it up and match them. I'm not planning on sleeping with a 21 yr old guy, so therefore I am not planning on going bald.

I was doing a Brazilian with a landing strip, but am currently pregnant and just can't keep up with it and think it looks ridiculous with my expanding belly. So, I got this http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P211908 and I love it! I use the epilator to do basically do what a bikini wax would and then I use the trimmer to groom/cut the rest. I love that you can use it in the shower too. It takes a while the first time, but now I just take it in the shower with me and do some upkeep every week.

I don't really do any more than groom the bikini line either, and never have. I have never had any complaints.
