Anyone done this Spain/Morocco itinerary?

Madrid - Granada - Ronda - Seville - Marrakesh

A YouTuber posted a series of 10 day itineraries and this one looks interesting.

Anyone done a similar itinerary?

Thoughts on any of these spots (worth it?)?

10 days is tight. I’d choose Spain or Morocco, or add several days.

The point is to hop around and get a quick taste, not stay in one place for too long.

Ronda was a daytrip/pit stop, not an overnight.

I’m more interested in hearing about the destinations and whether they are worth a stop or not.

I think this depends on what you like. I mean sure these cities are nice (I’ve been to three of the five, but not on a single trip), but is it better than Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels? Depends on what you are looking for.

Seville and Marrakesh are worth it. Would do Fez and the blue town.

Basically did this for spring break, but also with Tangier (and Chefchaoen) due to travel logistics.

I'd probably pick either Spain or Morocco as we wished we had more time in both places.

For spring break (and Holy Week 2026) we just did: two days London, and Seville, Granada and Malaga. DH and I and our HS daughter.

We had a great weekend in London, saw a show, the Churchill war rooms, Borough Market and the British Museum. Then flew to Seville via Easy Jet.

Three days in Seville was amazing. We stayed in Triana and saw the Mercado de Triana, the Alcazar, Plaza, cathedral and all kinds restaurants and side streets. Saw a flamenco show too.

Then took a train to Granada and saw the Alhambra. Amazing. Saw Holy Week processions in both cities. Shopped and ate amazing food.

Then took a 90 min direct bus to Malaga. Downtown Malaga is also beautiful. Ate cheesecake that they’re known for, and walked along the water. Shopped at the 3 story Zara and my daughter loved that.

Flew back to London on Vueling and then home the next day.

We left on a Thursday night and came back the following Sunday afternoon.

I planned in the following order: flight to London (was cheaper than Madrid), then flights to and from Spain, then refundable apartments in Spain via Booking.com, (used points for London hotels), then train tickets via Omio for Seville to Granada and bus to Malaga.

TripAdvisor forums are also very helpful.

I would save Morocco for another time if you only have 10 days. Focus on Spain, not more than 3-4 cities max.

We did all of this except Marrakesh - basically flew in to Madrid, and then on to Andalucia and flight out of Malaga.

I have been to all of these places except Ronda and agree that Morocco should be done separately so that you can also see Fes, the Sahara desert, and perhaps Chefchouen. Marrakech was my least favorite place in Morocco. Unless you have a special reason to fly into Madrid, like a good nonstop flight from the US, I would fly to Malaga via London and focus on southern Spain. There is so much to see there, all of which is more interesting than Madrid, imo.

Agree, but only if the trip is not in the summer. Avoid Andalucia from June-August

I did a Spain-Morocco trip for one week in each country. It was rushed but fine of you don't mind moving around. I was much younger and it would be too fast for me now.

I don't remember the order of cities, but we did only public transport (train in Spain, ferry to/from Morocco, then bus and overnight train in Morocco)

Madrid
Toledo (day trip from Madrid?)
Seville

Ferry Algeciras (maybe?) to Tangiers
Marrakesh and Fez

Ferry return
Granada
Ronda

Would love your itinerary. This is why I want to do for Christmas except maybe skip Malaga as it seems like a lot. Hotel recommendations also welcome. You took train?

We took train and bus. Spain was very easy to navigate with public transportation. I booked my intercity trains on Renfe and bus tix on Alsa ahead of time from here

My itinerary:

Madrid - 4 nights/3 days - included day trip to Segovia-Avila and Toledo. We skipped all museums and Retiro park (I actually wanted to see it but it was raining). If you want to see the Prado, Thyssen etc add on more time. With 1 full day and 3 evenings and got to see the Royal Palace, Temple of Debod for sunset (you need to book this if you want to visit inside - I had only morning tix so we couldn't see inside), Plaza Mayor, Plaza Espana, San Miguel market and walk by Gran Via, Cibeles fountain. We stayed at Petit Palace Preciados and it was very central and walkable to everything including the meeting spot for the guided day trip to Segovia-Avila. I recommend this hotel. Breakfast was great there. I'm not sure if we got an upgraded room but ours was very spacious and clean and newly renovated and had 2 balconies. The double bed was very comfortable but the twin beds for the kids was not as comfortable though. If you book through Petit Palace website, sign up for the tripster account and search for codes online.

Cordoba was a stop over on our way from Madrid to Sevilla - we booked train ticket Madrid-Cordoba, and Cordoba-Sevilla on Renfe, stored luggage in the bus station and spent 8.5 hours in Cordoba. The Alcazar was closed when we visited so we could visit the Mezquita, Roman bridge, Tower and Jewish quarter easily in that time and we walked to the historic center and back to train station (25 to 30 min each way). If you want to see the San Basilio patios in May or the Alcazar I recommend spending a night there.

Sevilla - 4 nights/3 days. It was just right for all the main sights. Loved Sevilla. We stayed in the Santa Cruz neighborhood at Petit Palace. It is an old boutique hotel smack in the middle of everything. It was a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral, 12 min walk to Alcazar, 10 min walk to Setas. If you want something more fancier, don't stay here but I still recommend you stay in Santa Cruz. It was so nice walking all those narrow streets. I also recommend having a drink at La Carboneria and watching one of their free nightly flamenco shows (7,8,9 pm). It gets crowded but felt very laid back. We also visited the popular Bar Alfalfa for tapas. I did see other tourist families with kids. It was good. My kids hated the other popular tapas bar Bodega Santa Cruz Las Columnas though. We sat inside while most people hung around outside but it was still a bit much for my teens. We had one round of tapas and left very quick. The fried fish tapas here tasted salty and bad. Both tapas bars were packed with people.

Granada - 2 nights/1.5 days (we left Sevilla mid morning and reached mid afternoon in Granada). We booked Alsa bus tickets and the direct bus was comfortable. Both train and bus take around 3 hours. 1.5 days in Granada was enough for us with kids but if you want to soak up the city, add another day. We saw the Sacromonte cave museum, visited a few Albaicin monuments, Cathedral was a skim through (we had seen many Cathedrals by then) and we spent 5 hours in Alhambra which was just about right for the Generalife, Alcazaba and Nasrid Palaces. We stayed near Plaza Nueva/foot of Albaicin. I don't recommend the hotel we stayed in. We had two rooms and they were clean but there was some sewage smell when we flushed. There were plenty of bustling tapas bars where we stayed, but my kids had had it with those in Sevilla, so we had to go to a sit in restaurant in Granada both nights. In Granada, you actually get free tapas with your drink.

We took cabs everywhere when we didn't feel like walking. Cabs are cheap there and with 4 people it was not that much more than the metro or bus tickets. Cabs were cheaper on the Bolt app. Uber and Pidetaxi were more. I think we spent around 500 euros on cabs in the entire 2 weeks including transfers to and from airport, train station and bus station, but we saved so much time by doing this.

Day trip to Ronda for sure. Go in the AM.

We did this in fall of 2025 as a way to get away from people at an endurance racing event. By 11am, even in November, an ass load of people showed up. It was a cool drive, and the bridge thing over the gorge is cool, but that's it.

We did Madrid Airport - drive to Cordoba the first day. Drive to Marbella. Race (with the day trip to Ronda). Did not do Morocco. Then Valencia for one night, and then Barcelona for 3 days and came home from there.

The road network in Spain is very impressive - they spent a ton of money before joining the EU. Waze works well. Watch out for the speed cameras on the interstate.
