The Hollywood Reporter has Sandra Bernhardt in the cast, and the photo they have used has her looking a lot like Jennifer Coolidge. Maybe she plays a sister out for revenge?

It's confirmed the show is filming in the south if France, and Mike White said previously that he was interested in doing a season at a film or art festival and exploring the ideas of art and celebrity. So I'm guessing the show will have some intersection with Cannes or Art Basel or a similar event. Maybe not the event itself, maybe the guests just came from the event, or are getting ready for it. Alternatively, maybe some of the guests are on location for a movie. The size of the announced cast and some of the names involved really indicates to me that multiple people will be portraying film stars or other celebrities.
Announced cast includes: Helena Bonham Carter, Kumail Nanjiani, Rosie Perez, Steve Coogan, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, and Chris Messina. Those are the "big" names. There's also like ten more announced cast members including younger, less well known actors (including AJ Michalka, who I like) and French actors who will likely be playing the staff at the hotel. Mike White has also said in a recent interview that this season is funnier than Season 3, which was more serious because the focus was on religion/spirituality. I have liked all the seasons, but feel season 3 was the most uneven season, weighed down by some less interesting plotlines. But I'm a big Mike White fan and excited about a season with more comedy, that maybe explores celebrity and art. Plus another gorgeous hotel backdrop and some snotty by lovable French hotel workers. |
