HS graduation at 6pm at UMBC? What about dinner?

Anonymous
RMHS graduation is at UMBC at 6pm. This is peak traffic time. My kid has to be there even earlier than other grads, so they will leave here at like 3pm.

What about dinner? By the time we get out at 8pm and take pictures (while sun is going down), it will be closer to 9pm. Who's having dinner at 9pm, especially around UMBC where there aren't very many nice restaurants.

The timing is awful. Can MCPS change the time?

LOL they won't change the time so you can eat.

Get catering at your home. No they aren't going to change the time- unless you prefer 6am.

Agree - not sure why they are doing 6 pm graduations for all the reasons you mentioned. It should be 2 graduations per day max.

They have multiple graduations there and each HS will rotate when the timing is. My senior’s graduation is also at 6pm but my current sophomore will have it at a different time. It is what it is. I plan to serve my family a really big lunch at mine starting at 1:30, a feast then we will figure out dinner later, even if it’s just burgers and fries. We will have a graduation party on a different day.

It's not just me. I can always take a snack, but the kids can't. They have to get there an hour earlier (I believe). And given that this is peak traffic time, they have to leave here by 4. It's the kids I'm worried about most.

I mean just order pizzas.

"Kids"? You mean the 18yo who are going off to college? Have them put a protein bar in their pocket/purse. They will not die from hunger.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

These kids, who are 17/18, can also eat a snack. They can carry a granola bar in their pocket.

Or, they can survive an couple of hours with out eating.

The timing may not be ideal for some, but it's not a huge issue.

Don’t order it to umbc - the driver won’t be able to get through the back up.

Will the concessions be open? Won’t help the grad but for family.

I didn't think they were allowed to take a purse, or a water bottle.

My kid gets a headache if they get hungry, or dehydrated, which can turn into nausea.

If they can take a purse/water bottle, yes, that would solve the problem.

Get catering to UMBC like the superintendent and Board of Education. They won’t miss a meal.

? so by the time we get home it will be 9:30pm. We are not Europeans who eat at 9:30. Also, in college they will have ample food around them pretty much whenever they want.

I think if the kids can take a purse and water bottle then that will solve the issue.

There are these wonderful inventions called "water fountains" that allow people to drink from them when they are thirsty.

Can’t they eat a sandwich around 4? Some nice restaurants in Columbia and Fulton. I am pretty sure they can survive 4-5 hours without food. Some of you really need to get some perspective!!!
