HS graduation at 6pm at UMBC? What about dinner?

Depends on the college graduation. My speaker was Anne Richard (the former Texas governor). She was insanely hilarious. I remember one story she was telling about the state legislature considering some sort of anti-gay legislation, possibly involving sodomy, and she remarked something like -- it's the texas legislature, so we're pretty used to a d** meeting an a**hole there. No one slept through that speech!

I meant logistics...overpay fir a hotel room that may require a 3 night stay. Arrive super early to get parking. Make dinner reservations a year in advance.

It's not just me. I can always take a snack, but the kids can't. They have to get there an hour earlier (I believe). And given that this is peak traffic time, they have to leave here by 4. It's the kids I'm worried about most.

"Kids"? You mean the 18yo who are going off to college? Have them put a protein bar in their pocket/purse. They will not die from hunger.

A girl almost passed out from low BS when DS graduated. Her friends were holding her up. It was difficult for teachers to reach her.

Unless she was diabetic and on medication, that didn’t happen. The body is very good at going long periods without food. Younger people especially have metabolic flexibility to switch to ketosis, and not eating for 8 hours isn’t ever going to cause low blood sugar unless there is a major underlying health condition.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. There are many reasons a young person might faint, “didn’t happen” is very obtuse of you. I used to pass out when I was overheated. No major health issue.

I’m guessing you’re an intermittent fasting loyalist and love to preach about how many hours everyone should also be as virtuous as you.

NP.

Are you saying that a healthy 17 year old is at risk of passing out because they did not eat from 4pm - 9pm?

Are they really not allowed to bring clear water bottles? I disagree with OP on the food issue, but I don't see why they would think students going 4 hours without water is a good idea.

You seem to have a major issue with the reading comprehension. Nobody said she she didn’t faint by overheating, anxiety, or any number of other things. Then only thing said was they she didn’t likely faint from low blood sugar simply because she didn’t eat in the preceding 6 hours!

Don't they (graduation organizers) hand out bottled water to graduates once they are inside venue/waiting for ceremony to start? And guests can purchase from concessions when inside the arena?

If they can't figure out what to do, God help them when they get to college.
