I don't actually think these schools are in the same league (though I'm sure Potomac boosters would disagree).

I think you should look beyond the brand recognition into their curriculum and extracurricular offerings

If your kid is truly choosing between the two because they got into both, have them visit/shadow again, and go with the one that they like the most. They are both great schools, and not different enough to override a kid's preference, unless logistics dictate otherwise (and sounds like they don't, here).

If this is for the future, cross that road when you get to it.

They have very different vibes. Which does your child prefer?

Agree different leagues. If 2 acceptances in hand, GDS hands down.

Is there really that much difference in these two schools?

We had this decision, and my kids chose Potomac. Both are great schools but the shadow day did not click with my kids at GDS. One of mine is very into robotics, and Potomac is hard to beat for that. The SERC concentration is also excellent. The student body/vibe was very different at each school. The education will be great at either, so do a shadow day at each, and I’d think it would be clear which one clicks.

+1 they each have a distinct feel and the academics are excellent at both. The shadow day made the choice clear

At least for us, Potomac didn’t offer a shadow day during the admission process and obviously can’t do one now since they are on spring break

I would pick GDS or an another DC private any day. DC private schools have more weight with admissions across the country. Facts!
