| At the end of the lunch, they told us they had Norovirus last week -- and lost 4 pounds - ha ha! I have extreme health anxiety around that illness and am trying not to spiral. How worried should I be? Anything I can do to strengthen my immune system, beyond handwashing? |
| Last week as in friday or monday? Gross. |
| That’s inconsiderate! Sorry. Eat vitamin C |
No it's not. They are recovered. It would be inconsiderate if a day or 2 ago they had had active symptoms. But a week? It's fine. |
| I also have health anxiety. If lunch was at their home or they prepared any of the food, I would worry. If you met them at a restaurant, I would not worry. |
Try taking some wedderspoon manuka honey. It kind of helps with illness that comes from GI or respiratory issues. Go do salt gargle. Drink lots of warm liquids - lemon water, turmeric milk, green tea, chicken soup. Change the ph of your body by doing some breathing exercises. (Tummo Breathing - school of breath) Soak in hot baths. |
Thank you! |
| What day? |
| You didn't catch it. |
| You’ll be fine. |
| I am very fearful of Noro. I wouldn’t knowingly be near anyone who’d had it within the last week but if you met out at a restaurant and didn’t share food, I really think the risk is low. |
| It's fine. If they are well enough to be going out, they aren't going to give it to you. |
|
People are contagious for several days after symptoms disappear and the germs can remain active on surfaces for weeks. Fortunately you ate in a restaurant and not their home, and you didn't eat food they prepared, so I agree with PP that the risk is low.
Another positive is that the incubation period is short (12 - 48 hours) so you'll soon know that you didn't catch it. Chances are that you will be fine, OP. |
OP here - appreciate all the encouraging comments. Positive thoughts have to help too!
|
None of this will do a single thing to help, this is such an odd list of advice. OP you don’t give much of a timeline but if it was “last week” and you’re still not sick you’re good to go. |
