15 yo DS's sports are coming up and he leaves home at 7:30 am. He already takes lunch from home but the lunch hour is much too early in the day. After the school ends, he will have about 45 min of free time before sports practice begins.
Can you recommend some calorie and protein intense items that do not need refrigeration? He doesn't like protein bars. All I can think of is mixed nuts. We can prepare food in the morning and send too. His lunch includes leftovers, fruit, and a processed snack. |
| If a freezer pack is placed in his lunch bag, does it stay cold enough for a few hard cooked eggs? If not, I would opt for a peanut butter and jelly on multi grain bread. Roasted chick peas are good too. |

My kid found that sealed / individually wrapped cheese sticks lasted pretty well in his lunchbox until after school. Couple of those with a package of crackers, and he was happy.
Container of pasta salad worked well too. Can add cubes of mozzarella for protein, but carbs were also really important if he was going to be running around for the next couple of hours. Bag of trail mix. |
| Maybe some cauliflower florets? |

OP here. Thank you all. I see some options here that will work.
About freezer pack, his bag is already heavy and packed with school stuff that o don’t want add more weight. Also his lunch bag is just enough to carry the lunch. |

PB and banana on wheat bread and a box of whole chocolate milk.
Good fuel, carb/protein/fat No refrigeration needed |
Minimize these, not healthy. |
WTF? |
My kid likes Muscle Milk. I can't really debate protein shakes of any sort knowing there will be lots of unhealthy parts but I can't stomach Fairlife after I bought some "lower sugar" chocolate milk, thinking Yay! Less sweet! Instead they added sucralose. Disgusting. |
I get OWYN chocolate flavor for this reason. 32g plant protein and the sweetener is monkfruit, not sucralose or stevia which make me gag. It’s the least gross of the options. |
