| So now that they’ve effectively boxed themselves in with their snow day decision, what will they do if there’s actually significant weather overnight that should warrant a closure? I assume they now will try and push to stay open/delayed no matter what happens but does anyone have any insight as to the options if we hit the boom scenario? |
| Just let it go. Accept you don't have control over what happens and trust you will figure out how to deal with what does. Try to step back and look at the big picture -- will any potential outcome really impact your family that much long-term? Everything will be okay (with respect to DCPS and snow days). |
+1. At the very most it will be a 2 hour delay or maybe one snow day. Everyone will be fine. |
Did DCPS announce school would open tomorrow somewhere? |
+100 Yes it can feel like a huge pain, and there’s a lot many of us are already dealing with. But I think we’ll be able to deal with things better if we take a breath from time to time. |
| Why have they boxed themselves into a corner? If there’s a snow day they extend the school year one more day into June. And no kids or teachers will show up. Who really cares? |
+1 The teacher will probably show up, because they'll be cleaning out their classrooms, etc. But no one is boxed into any corner. The district can still add a day if they need to. |
Exactly. I think DCPS is doing a great job this year telling us in advance what the plan is. |
| Given that they opened when they did last storm when a large number of roads were not cleared, I think as long as their contractors get sidewalks in front of schools cleared we open on time. |
| Two hour delay. |
Is that your guess or have they announced? |
| Also guessing a 2 hour delay - may not be announced until early tomorrow AM as there is still uncertainty in forecast |
I really think that they don't wait until morning anymore to make a decision. The demand from parents is to announce in the evening so people can make plans. Hopefully we'll hear before 8 p.m. |
This is such a great comment, thank you. |
| what are you talking about? what decision was boxed in |
