Beach Week 2026 - Graduating Class

Anonymous
My son and a couple of friends want to go to Myrtle Beach for end-of-year graduation.

It will be their last fun get-together before they all head to different Colleges.

I told them to go somewhere closer in VA but they insist all FCPS kids go to Myrtle.

Anyone with "experience" that can offer some insight?

I'm old, but most kids my age didn't go that far. It's usually just MD/DE

FCPS alum from the 80s. Most of our HS went to Myrtle Beach. Our group went to OBX. Most other HS I think went to OC.

Yes Myrtle is new destination for FCPS graduates - Virginia Beach and certainly OBX have cracked down harder last few years on multi-kid rentals. Myrtle appears to be little more lenient. Still, most places require parents to sign rental agreement and assume responsibility etc.

It doesn't happen unless parents work to make it happen.

You do not need to make sure this happens.

My 2025 grad and most of the kids in his FCPS class went to Myrtle last year. It's a thing.

Mine went to OBX, but two of the parents went with them so were able to rent the house. They had a fantastic time.

FCPS is definitely shifting to Myrtle Beach. I think it's better than OBX, because at least there's other things to do.

Huge eye roll. Let your kid hang out at the pool with friends (who they most likely won't still be friends with in a year) and put the Myrtle money into a college or house fund for them.

Op here. My kid and his friends have been besties since middle school.
I'm not paying for Myrtle or any other place, they are working PT their senior year and will pay for it themselves. (Their budget is 4K.)

I do, however, will help facilitate the rental since you have to be 25 and over to rent.

How do they get there? Flight, bus, drive?

I'm not too comfortable having a teen do the long drive. ~ OP.

Mine talked about going to Myrtle. If they do, hopefully a parent would be there and drive them. I'm not wild about the idea.

Huge eye roll right back at you. You know it doesn't cost that much to go to beach week, right? And that they have the rest of the summer to work a p/t job and hang out at the pool with friends. You do you and stop judging other people because you're too uptight to let your kid enjoy ONE week at the beach with friends.
