Why do so many dog owners not pick up dog poop in snow? cold?

Anonymous
It's astonishing how much dog feces is everywhere. Why get a dog if you don't want to be responsible for it? I'll never understand how so many dog owners can be so entitled and selfish.

If it helps, my puppy is out there eating as much of it as he can.

I agree though, it’s so rude.

The irresponsible and inconsiderate dog owners are always there, leaving poop everywhere for others to step around and rats to snack on. It’s just that, with the snow and ice, it’s more obvious.

My dog too.

No one has ever left dog feces in my property until this week. I find it insulting and rude. Why on earth can’t they pick it up?? You chose to have a dog, it’s not my problem.

I don't think there's a significant change in behavior... I suspect that since old poo is preserved by cold temps, we just happen to see them all when the snow finally melts. Whereas in usual circumstances, the poo isn't as noticeable on the ground/grass/bushes/leave, and it degrades more rapidly.

Hmm. I've changed my mind. Perhaps in very cold temps, people have difficulty handling poo bags with gloves, like I do, and don't want to take their gloves off in the bitter cold. If I can't tie a knot in the bag with my gloves, I take them off to do so - and in the low windchills we had, that was quite an experience. But I pick up no matter what.

So maybe a little of both?

It’s more noticeable in the snow.

Dog owner here. I would never, ever not pick it up. A few times I’ve gone out and realized I didn’t have a bag, but I’ll come back to pick it up. So embarrassing and would hate for a neighbor to think I’m so inconsiderate.

Me too! But apparently we don’t make up for the others…

I’ve picked up every single turd my dog made and I’m older. Having to negotiate the icy surface to get to said turds is not always easy and I’ve almost fallen a few times. So I get when someone doesn’t want to risk it, but a lot of these piles are easily reached. THAT is rude! At least go back and pick it up later.

Most people are multitasking on their phones, not even realizing their dogs taking a crap. It’s more noticeable on the snow, but they do it all the time even when it’s not snowing.

I’m another dog owner thoroughly disgusted by this.
My kids sometimes walk the dog and I’ve told them that if they are the AH doing this, I will basically disown them. We live in a really nice neighborhood—people have expensive dogs and take care of their stuff. It’s maddening.

I do think some of the smaller ones are fox poop though. We have tons of foxes.

I agree pick up your dog’s mess!!

Sadly, our adult dog does her best to eat the snow and random poop. Blech.

There are 6 piles of dog crap from my apartment door sidewalk till my parking lot, I'm astounded by how lazy and nasty the dog owners are here in the West End of Alexandria. They should not own any dogs.
