Did Fallsmead class run out of school and into community during Wootton Shooting?

Saw this in another thread but I feel like this warrants its own thread… can someone attest to this? If this is true, holy shit. Is MCPS not going to own up to this?

Yalll want to talk about lockdown failures? The media isn’t reporting this and MCPS will never own up to this… but ask any Fallsmead parent.

The announcement made at Fallsmead ES made it sound like there was an active shooter in Fallsmead. At least one classroom ran out into the Fallsmead community with their teacher. The ended up sheltering at some kid’s basement.

The irony is that they ran quite literally into danger.

But no…MCPS won’t include that will they??

Unfortunately, this is true. I have friends whose 4th graders are a part of this group of kids who ran out. I do want to note that the teacher did run out with them and stayed with the kids.

I get the situation was crazy, and I’m not in any of those people’s shoes. I’m not trying to accuse anyone. But this shouldn’t be covered up…it should be learned from.

Clearly this wasn’t the right protocol…

Why is it the more I hear about the shooting, the worse it gets? The CEO may have been missing? A class full of kids ran out into danger during lockdown? The suspect was posting on social media with the gun?

And why am I learning about all of the above from DCUM instead of from MCPS?

Welcome to dealing with MCPS. You always hear the truth from the grapevine....or the media. You'll never hear it from MCPS, until they're forced to admit it.

I don’t have kids at Fallsmead but this is very very frightening. Those poor children ran into where the danger was! And imagine being a parent of a child who couldn’t be accounted for during the lockdown? How is this any of this ok? Is MCPS really going to pretend this didn’t happen???

Daaaaamn so that's where the CEO was? Is that a separate lockdown or after Wootton's?

What do you mean the CEO was missing? The CEO of what exactly because MCPS doesn't HAVE a CEO...

No, these are completely separate issues.

Police Chief says CEO was at Lakewood ES instead of Wootton because he was responding to a separate incident. Lakewood principal says he was not and there was no incident at Lakewood. Nobody knows where he actually was.

Separately, because of the Wootton shooting, Fallsmead ES—which is merely .5 mile away—went into lockdown due to the shooter being at large (he ran out of Wootton with the gun). During Fallsmead ES lockdown, a class of kids with their teacher ran outside the safety of a building and into the community where the shooter was.

CEO stands for the community engagement officer aka the cop who is assigned from Rockville police department to Wootton

They ran because they heard the shots. I don't think the lockdown was announced yet. Lakewood locked down around 2:40. Fallsmead was probably about the same. Gunshots 2:15.

MCPS teacher here...

Yes. This is what we are taught to do in an active shooter situation.
Avoid
Deny
Defend

We are told that if there is an active shooter and we are able to safely exit the building with our students, that we should do so. I'm at the end of the hallway near an exterior door and this is my plan if it ever happens.

This is not the fault of the teacher IF they actually thought the shooter was in the school. Lockdown drills say you absolutely can run away into the neighborhood for safety. It's a communication failure on whoever made the announcement that there was an active shooter in the school. Now if that announcement never happened, yeah-then it is on the teacher.
