would a kid who is quiet and academic like UVa

My child, specifically. She is the opposite of a sorority girl. Very sophistocated in my personal opinion and has a lot of experiences kids her age haven't (and vice versa, as she grew up outside of the US). She seems to think it would be a big party with very kids who are very "Virginian," which she finds distainful. Doesn't everyone find their tribe?

Sounds like William & Mary could be a good fit for your quiet academic?

Kids who are very Virginian…your daughter is quite judgmental.

She didn't like William and Mary at all when she visited, but couldn't clearly articulate why

Its a big school. She just won't be in the majority.

Meaning the majority of people are more... what, bro/sorority culture in the stereotypical way?

If you don't like a Virginian feel and you don't want to be around people who party ever W&M is also not going to be a fit

She will be ok at UVA but would likely prefer William and Mary or a similar sized private such as an ivy, WashU, or Chicago, to achieve more intellectual vibes.

Daughter sounds like a snob. Maybe she would like W&L

What about an SLAC like Carleton, Davidson or Tufts, if private/OOS schools are possibilities?

OP, your DD sounds kinda awful. FYI, plenty of sophisticated Virginians. If she isn’t interested, why are you forcing it on her?
