2026 Oscar nominations

The only big surprise is Sentimental Value doing so well, since it was hit or miss in early award nominations. The "snubs" are not really snubs, since they also had been hit or miss prior (Paul Mescal, Chase Infiniti et al). Though I would have picked Jesse Plemmons over Benicio del Toro.

Critics seem to agree that One Battle After Another is pretty much a lock for Best Picture and Best Director, and Teyana Taylor for supporting actress. I'd also pick Sean Penn for supporting, but that one is a little more open.

Would love to see Wagner Moura win Best Actor, think he has a shot.

Surprised to see that F1 got a BP nom. Really? Other than the sharp racing scenes, found that movie trite and forgettable.

Seems the award ceremony could be quite boring.

I would consider Paul Mescal and Ariana Grande snubs since they hit all the other major award precursors (Critics, GG, SAG, and BAFTA shortlist.) Neither were likely to win, though.

This bodes well for Stellan Skarsgard. He lost the Critics Choice and was snubbed for a SAG, but the Sentimental Value love in other categories might build back the momentum he needs to take Best Supporting Actor.

Jacob Elordi cancelled Paul Mescal's nom bc they're basically the same person

Weird. They look nothing alike and have completely different personalities.

I didn’t like one battle after another.

Me neither. I don't understand why it's getting so much acclaim at all.

Since I belong to AMC A List, I see almost every movie released in theaters. I didn't get the hype about Marty Supreme + I usually like Timothy Chalamet.

It's a clever political satire, undergirded by the theme of familial love. As with most satires, people tend to like it or not. I found it fresh, original, and always interesting.

I think Plemons would have been in Lead Actor consideration, right? I loved Benicio in OBAA but that was definitely a supporting role.

I thought "Sinners" would get a bunch of nominations, but didn't foresee it breaking the all-time record!

I think "fresh" is partly why I didn't like it. To me it felt very "of the moment" the way Crash got a bunch of awards but was a terrible movie yet won over Brokeback Mountain which stood the test of time. In terms of acting, cinematography... Sean Penn is no Christoph Walz, and this was no Tarantino masterpiece. Benicio Del Toro was the only one who stood out performance-wise.

Yes, you're right.

I forgot to mention Jessie Buckley will obviously win Best Actress. I'm a little stunned Kate Hudson was nominated for that drippy film. It/she must be much better than the trailers suggest.

Emma Stone barely did anything in Bugonia. I guess she shaved her head and was covered in cream so it compensates for having facial expressions.

Coogler really does well with the technical details of his movies so it's not surprising. His films always have excellent cinematography, for instance.
