Things not to say to a new mother…

When they tell you the new baby is a boy-don’t say “Is that what you wanted?”

Oh man I'm pregnant and getting that now. My coming second is a also boy and "oh are you disappointed it's not a girl".

My boys are not disappointments.

Relax, some people think everyone wants one of each

I have two boys, and I hated comments about didn’t I want a girl. I’m sure it goes both ways. I’m not sure why people feel the need to comment about the gender of your kids.

It's nonsensical given you can't control the sex of your children. Why people feel the need to go "oh no" over a healthy baby based on gender is just irritating.

Some people should learn to keep their nonsense thoughts to themselves.

Buckle up, this is just the beginning of people's inane comments to/about your child.

Oh she’s big for her age
He’s too old to xyz
Aren’t you worried about xyz if he keeps doing that
Have you thought about early intervention / an evaluation
She has her fathers nose
Don’t worry, my kid also (insert rude and inaccurate projection)

Are you keeping the baby?
Was it planned?

Also "isn't your baby cold, where's his hat" when it's like 80F outside.

She looks nothing like either of you
Why did you choose that name
Why is she in daycare all day
You shouldn't go to her right away when she cries
Babies shouldn't be held all day
Sleep when she sleeps ( )

A thick skin is a critical parenting skill. I’m not kidding. You won’t survive if you’re trying to police people over stuff like this and/or you let it get to you.

True but it's okay to vent privately on an anonymous forum.

Like what do you say in the moment to someone who's like "are you going to try again for a girl" and like ma'am, he's not even born yet and you're demanding to know when I'm going to have more.

Say you'll think about it when your vaginal cavity and taint heal.
