You won't find a cluster of more than 2, 3 kids for a same school. They are steered to a WIDE range of ivy league and plus and top lac schools.
No rat race, everyone finds somewhere they are happy.
Well done!

Isn't 2 or 3 from same high school a lot if the college's student pop is less than 10k?

Very impressive. No offense to Dickinson but it is kind of an outlier (there are some other non-Ivy type schools but mainly for athletes).

There are about 200 more kids in that grade.

The original Phillips in Massachusetts does the same. I had a friend whose son went there and they steered him to UIUC. Oh a girl from DC’s class who attended ended up at UC Davis. I believe she is a Harvard legacy. Wonder if she was even allowed to apply to Harvard if she ended up at Davis.

OP — everyone is NOT happy. Parents especially.

This is a well known feeder school. All applicants are hooked bc attending a feeder school is a hook. Do you think FCPS’ college counselors could point the top kids to a variety of schools like this and they’d get in bc it was sprinkled around?

UIUC is one of the top 3-5 for CS, also v highly ranked for all Engineering so perhaps the student wanted one of those majors - if so, well done

I dated a guy who went there back in the day. He was strongly pushed to apply to the Ivy where he was a legacy (and parents gave $$$) not the Ivy he actually wanted to go to. He ended up applying early to legacy Ivy and going there. Exeter has so many kids with connections/money and as a private it has more control than a public school. It is interesting but not really relevant for most of us.

Some kids are adamant about going to school in CA. On UC Davis family day in fall ‘25, I encountered a father of a high stats Connecticut kid who was going to UCD for this reason. Combination of location and program can lead to this result.

Are you connected to the school? Give us a little more color as to what is going on and what sort of accomplishments or hooks different kids have.

Two public schools? Coddling 2.0
