Best scar cream/gel

Our HS DD has stitches on her face. The doctor recommended scar cream for after the stitches come out but did not recommend a specific brand. Would love advice from others who have experience on what works well.

Sometimes it works well, sometimes not.

I had the same luck with CVS kids' scar gel as Mederma for kids.

I would see Dr. Thomas Adrian in DC. Knows exactly the right treatment that works. Pragmatic and fair pricing. I absolutely love how he improved my post-surgery scar.

Also the silicone bandaid type things and big one - wear sunscreen!!!! My child had major plastic surgery and I asked about scars and sunscreen was the big thing (once no broken skin/stitches). If you have follow ups you can also ask if massaging the area would beneficial or not.

A P.A. in the dermatologist’s office told me that the silicone sheets or liquid that you rub in work best. I had dog bite scars on my arm and the silicone worked really well.

Thanks for all the advice so far. For those that recommend the skin patches, do you wear them 24/7? Or could we use the silicon gel for when she is out of the house and just do the patches at home?

I used the silicone patches at first, and later the gel. Sunscreen is the most important, although it's winter, so less of a bother. If the scar isn't gone by late April, I might have her continue with the patches for outside, just to be sure to keep the sun off the scar

I used a scar tape from amazon for a scar on my face. Worked very well.

I had some minor surgery on my forehead to get rid of a mole. I used these silicone scar sheets and they were GREAT! I wore them 24x7 and they worked very well. I would replace daily. I just cut a bunch off to fit the scar. I think I wore them for a few weeks. I think there is paint on silicone, but these worked best for me. Yes you can do this. I had skin cancer on my neck and then a scar about 2 inches long after it was removed. I waited 4-6 weeks using just vaseline and covering it with bandaids when I need sun protection. But then I moved to using silicone scar sheets. I got a big roll of it for cheap on Amazon so I cut it to size. I used that round the clock for a few weeks. Then eventually just at night and I'd use the gel during the day (covered with sunscreen too).

The scar sheets and sunscreen did wonders, now you can't even tell I used to have a thick gnarly scar. Sunscreen is VERY important, especially in the first 2 years.
