Why is it acceptable for men to act like an extra child?

There’s not much anyone can do, it is what it is. Lower your expectations.

It’s not acceptable - ever. Maybe you married wrong.

It's not acceptable. I certainly wouldn't accept it. Luckily, I'm not married to a man child.

Men were hunters and women gatherers for a long time in human history. Evolution swing takes time.

Women (moms, girlfriends and wives) like control on their household.

The people I know who act like children, both men and women, have serious trauma and/or mental health issues.
My experience is that more such men get into relationships than women. It's like women give it a try and then single, but men keep dating and even marrying.

Women need to screen more and scream less. If a man has other good qualities, consider it a compromise or move on. Don't try to assume you can change another adult. If its a good relationship and they are happy, they'll improve but not change. Not any different than you changing to become messy and disorganized to match them, you may let go of perfection and control but not changing how you prefer your household.

I dispute your premise.

What percentage of men in your age range have good enough looks, good character, high education, good career, financial discipline, no addiction to alcohol, drugs, porn, cheating etc. Not many and most of them are out of league of most women so you pick where you want to compromise and what's an absolute no for you. Same goes for men, most have to compromise, not everyone is getting their dream girl.

It’s not acceptable, which is why so many women divorce men like those.

Your spouse is the only family member you ever really choose.

Choose wisely.

Teach your daughters and sons.
