Eric Holder for DC Mayor?

Anonymous
Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George as our only choices? Ugh. What about Holder? He lives in DC, he was a successful US Attorney for DC, and I can’t imagine anyone better at fighting Trump. I heard from someone who knew him that he was interested in running for Mayor back in the 2000s (maybe in 2006?).

Well based on the other thread about who non-socialists here should vote for… maybe Holder! But is he actually considering running?

He’d have my vote

Nope. He won't be running.

This would be the greatest win for DC and unfortunately won’t happen.

Did you hear that from him or someone close to him? There have got to be former Obama people in DC who can encourage him to do it… he’d win in a landslide, so I think the job is basically his if he wants it.

Why is the premise of running for Mayor based on fighting Trump?
Anonymous
It would be amazing to get a mayoral candidate who was motivated by just wanting to make DC a great place to live, rather than the ambition of exploiting a corrupt system for personal benefit.

I feel like Fenty and maybe Tony Williams were a bit closer to this. Definitely Fenty. Gray and definitely Bowser were in it for the wrong reasons. Bowser in particular has such an ego, it's really disheartening. I'd take another Marion Barry over another Bowser, I think she's been such a disaster.

How do we find and recruit another Fenty?

Not OP. I don't think fighting Trump should be the whole premise of selecting a mayor. But, unfortunately, we do need someone who can navigate his BS because a really weak mayor (yes, even weaker than Bowser, who I don't like but who has done an okay job with this, all things considered) would be really dangerous. We also have to think about if Trump does something really dangerous again, like J6, and what it would look like with a mayor who would give into him immediately or be a useful pawn. I wish we didn't have to worry about this, but we do.

The good news is that someone who knows how to both stand up to Trump and manipulate the situation to protect the district (in some cases the thing to do is not take a very public stand against but to flatter him into something) would also be smart and capable, which are qualities a good mayor should have.

Agree with OP about need to navigate the Trump situation and also need for a smart and capable Mayor. Personally based on what I’ve heard from friends who worked at DOJ, I think Holder would be a capable executive/manager, and he’d be a magnet for talent—which we desperately need in city gov.

He’s 74 now. Do we really want a 78-79 year old mayor?

Maybe as a 1 term bridge-mayor.

This isn't the federal takeover I was hoping for, but it just might do.

Okay I hear you saying this... but what's your source that he wouldn't consider? He wanted the job after being US Attorney for DC...
