Guys, this is the kind of thing that just festers under my skin.
So much of this administration’s actions are cruel for the sake of it and will have a more devastating effect on people’s lives. All of that is awful, but I can at least understand the arguments against abortion or immigration, RTO for Feds. I disagree completely but I know there are constituents in favor of these policies and it is politics, after all. But something like this, which helps people while hurting no one, just boggles my mind. Why would anyone be in favor of purposefully communicating in a way that makes it more difficult for others to understand (which is the opposite of what communication is supposed to do). https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/dec/10/trump-times-new-roman-font-return-state-department |

In case you’re wondering what the OP is talking about, under the last administration, government officials were told to adopt the Calibri font because it’s more accessible to people with low vision and other limitations. Trump 2 deemed it a DEI issue and has ordered a move back to Times Roman. Glad to see our government is hard at work. Improving lives for all Americans.
“US diplomats have been ordered to return to using the Times New Roman typeface in official communications, with secretary of state Marco Rubio calling the Biden administration’s decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move, according to an internal department cable seen by Reuters. The department under Rubio’s predecessor Antony Blinken switched to Calibri in 2023, claiming the modern sans-serif typeface was more accessible for people with disabilities because it did not have the decorative angular features and was the default in Microsoft products.” |
| In case you haven’t grasped this, this administration is fueled by anger, revenge, and hate. They aren’t fueled by a desire to honor Americans or our constitution. |
| I always thought that serif fonts were actually easier to read? But maybe it’s a print versus screen thing? |
People thought Trump and his goons were only coming for Black people. Well, they were wrong. The physically and mentally challenged is the "A" in DEIA, and he has come for them too. |
| Who cares |
It’s an indication of what the White House is focusing on because they are completely unable to address cost of living, health care, foreign policy, Epstein, etc |
Idiot, the visually impaired cares. |

I love calibri font.
This is not the hill to die on. We are purposely being provoked. Don’t take the bait. |
| Times New Roman is so 1998. How bizarre. It is also just not as nice looking. |
Agree and yet ... the move was based on overturning DEI. It is cruel. These folks are also the biggest micromanagers I've ever seen. A font is top priority when 1 million + people have been terminated this year, really? When they want to attack Venezuela to do a regime change, really? |
It is print vs screen. Serifs are easier on the eyes in print. Sanserif is easier on screen. |
| How is it wasteful? Show us the cost breakdown of the switch. And then show us the cost breakdown of switching back. |
Cruelty is priceless to this admin. |
I hope you are also this vociferous about getting the crazy kids out of elementary school and the violent kids out of middle/high school. Millions of normal kids suffer for over a decade. Or else stop talking about this, which seems to be lacking in actual reporting, i.e., short on statistics but an abundance of trigger words in the reporting. And if this is so significant, why can't anyone remember that seminal moment in 2023 when the original change occurred? |
