MoCo New No right on Red

Disaster. Most are pointless in the extreme.

I got on 370 by Rio (near Kohls) for the first time since this went up and waited through 6 or 7 light cycles. EVERYONE at this light is turning red and only about 6 cars per cycle were getting through.

All of the ones within a mile radius of SG Hospital are also a joke. Especially since the most dangerous move (the left on green from SG Road into the hospital) is still legal. Why that isn't green arrow only is beyond me. You can't see cars oncoming and they are usually going way too fast.

While I'm ranting, the left on Norbeck to Layhill is also insane. Just make it green arrow only please.

I know it might not work with existing configurations of intersections that were built with right on red in mind... but in most countries in the world, it's illegal to turn right on red, since it very obviously makes it very unsafe for pedestrians. The fact that this isn't illegal already in the US is a symbol of American car culture. Pedestrians don't count here.

I am thankful they are starting to count in certain parts of the US, and I will bear myself in patience in the ensuing traffic.

At University and Colesville, the no turn on red sign isn’t even visible unless you’re several cars back from the intersection. So at off hours, you wouldn’t even see the sign once you’re stopped at the light. They must be making a killing off that camera.

No idea why there isn’t additional signage over the light nearest to SSDS. Right now, it’s only on the light nearest to 7-11, which is right above a driver’s head.

Instead of solving the problem of distracted drivers, we're causing more traffic (more pollution while waiting and idling, wasting time, and gas) and causing more stress. HATE all the new no turn on red signs

If I’m at the front pulling up I ignore the sign.
I check for pedestrians on my right or in front of me, and cars coming from my left. If I’m good to go, I go.

DC had to do this this year due to the high number of pedestrian deaths. I know there have been a high number of pedestrian deaths in FFX as well. We need to have no-right-turn-on red as the default; if communities decide it makes sense to allow rt on red at certain intersections, then they can post signs to that effect in the intersections where they want to do that. But for safety reasons the default needs to be no rt on red.

Omg, is that why the traffic around Target and Kohl’s in Rio is now insane? I went to Target Monday evening around 5:00 and it was a mess. I thought there must have been an accident. It was bad enough when they built Lifetime Fitness and the Carnegie and added that traffic to the intersection of Fields Rd and 370/Sam Eig right by 270, but this takes the cake.

It used to be right on red AFTER stop. Over the past few years, it literally became right on red.

Wait- I feel the exact opposite. It's so dangerous for pedestrians when cars turn right on only green! So the second pedestrians are allowed to move, so are the cars. A lot of times there are so many pedestrians that cars can't turn right at all. It's much safer to turn right on red when pedestrians aren't present.
