| I read a WaPo article over the weekend that talked about how lab diamonds are so inexpensive these days and how this is driving the size of rings up - i.e. 2 carats becoming the norm vs. 1. I got married over a decade ago so am very out of the loop here and curious. If anyone can get a 2 carat ring for $2500, doesn't that significantly lessen the appeal of bigger diamonds because they are no longer a status symbol? |
| Buy the diamond you like. Don’t be a sheep following trends. If more people can now afford big rocks then good for them. It’s silly to feel superior because you paid more for a “mined” diamond. They’re the same. |
OP here. Like I said, I got married a long time ago so I have no skin in the game here. I'm just wondering what it's going to mean trend-wise. |
| Yes, size is trending up because they are cheaper |
| Definitely trending up. Everyone wants to look like a celebrity with some giant ass ring. |
| I've noticed that the celebrities have been preferring the bombé ring style, which uses a lot of gold. It makes sense, as it's no longer such a flex to have a huge stone. |

I think the whole status symbol thing is ridiculous. Get what you like and is withinyour budget, the only thing to consider is stone durability (because rings Get a lot of abuse).
Diamonds were mostly marketing anyway. |
| Yes. |
| No one sees diamonds as a status symbol so it doesn’t really matter. |
| I have a real diamond ring and don't wear it anymore because the neighborhood went to crap and I'm not trying to get robbed. |
| Maybe people like how they look? No one really cares how big your diamond is. |
LOL no |
| Status symbol??? diamonds were never a status symbol. If you think you had "status" because of any piece of jewelry you wear, I've got news for you - you have no status. LOL! |
Bless your heart! |

So glad blood diamonds values are tanking.
This is a man made ridiculous obsession… big rings are so ugly. |
