The Goldilocks Schools of DCUM

There's a group of colleges on this forum that you can't say anything negative about if you want to keep your head: Davidson, Pomona, Williams, Holy Cross,...noting a theme? Why is it that these schools are so talked about? Is it that alum are embarrassed no-one knows their school or just annoying boosters?

These schools are critiqued all the time. They just tend to be nice places to go to college.

I think there’s a small group of loud parents who either attended those schools or who have kids currently attending and who refuse to hear anything negative about them. Meanwhile, most people give those particular schools zero thought or attention.

I’ll also add that some places are just nice solutions to others’ problems. I see a lot of Pomona buzz in here, and it’s because many parents are looking for LACs, but they have a bazillion concerns with the small size, so those issues are less important with 5 colleges with accessible academic resources between one another.

Williams has a lot of love though. There’s been times where I’ve lightly pointed out that, no, Williams is not exactly HYP level and the knives have come out. It’s a good school, but I do think Williams parents really can’t get passed the “#1 LAC” title

Actually people can’t get past the nonsensical fawning over a few schools which aren’t objectively better but are worshiped by some on DCUM. The whole premise that one can objectively stack rank these schools is foolish but people keep coming back time and time again with nonsense like your second sentence. The same goes for WASP which is equally stupid.
