| Getting ready to also. I’ve used Eatwild.com in other areas to find ranchers. I always factored in the price including butchering, hanging weight can be tricky. I’m looking for one that vacuum seals individual steaks, roast and 1# packages of ground beef. |

| This reminds me of the first time my mom bought 1/2 of a cow. I was about 11 years old and we went to the farm to pick it up. I literally thought we were getting 1/2 of a dead cow. I was hoping it was going to be the back half because I didn't want to look at the eyes! And I was very concerned that it wasn't going to fit into our car. My mom played along and I got more nervous the closer we got to the farm. We laughed about it for years. |

Depends on the breed, rancher's price, etc. In most places you cannot legally sell directly to the public but have to sell to the corrupt meat packing industry like Tyson, etc. who are all mafia/union/Government controlled. That's main reason why prices are increasing. |

Don't expect any savings doing this.
The reason people do this is to avoid the feedlot/vaccinated stuff and to avoid the sketchy mass butchering places that hire illegals that often taint the meat. If you are wanting to get it cheaper, buy a whole steer and butcher it yourself. That's only way to get a big price break. |
| I get mine from Long Stone Farm. Excellent meat. Haven't done it in like a year though so prices may have gone up. It ended up working out to about $10/lb for the meat alone, I think, which is about the prices of grass-fed ground beef but included all the steaks and ribs and so on too! |

Long ago I raised livestock with my family. We sold animals locally (pigs and cattle). Technically you are selling the animal while it is alive even if selling to more than one person. The animal would be brought to town (there was a butcher and frozen storage run as a farm co-op). My brother recently retired, but for several years he told me he and his wife buy beef in the supermarket in the nearest bigger town because it's cheaper than using their own when the cost of raising the animal and paying for processing and then freezer storage for the amount of meat they end up with. |
